I am fairly certain I have never posted a comment on KZfaq, in my 32 years. This video changed my life. It gave me the validation that I had been searching for. I have always wanted kids, and I couldn’t understand why I was having SUCH a hard time…since birth. This answered every question I had ever asked myself. It also addressed EVERY single reason I gave myself, in my head, that my child had Autism. Despite my family saying “she’ll catch up,” as a mom…you JUST KNOW when something is different. Thanks to THIS video, my daughter was diagnosed with level 2 autism, just a month and a half after turning 2. I went with my gut. I got her evaluated…and I was SO unbelievably elated and relieved to get the results to be honest…because I had been trying EVERYTHING to get my daughter to engage, and I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. It was killing me. This video changed my life. Thank you so much. ❤

Laura, I’m crying as I type this. My 21 month old son is gross motor delayed, nonverbal, and has just experienced his first regression. I had all of the signs blaring in my face… we had a early int. PT in home for the past nine months. Before PT he was unable to sit unassisted let alone stand or “cruise” furniture. Now that we are beginning ST, OT, seeing neuro, and being evaluated next month I am finally realizing just how much work we have ahead of us. His PT recommended you and your work especially for social games and task boxes, this week I’ve been actively adding this to his daily routine and changing his environment into one with less triggers and that is easy for him to thrive in. I cannot wait to start your workbooks and DVDs!

Any advice for a 2 year old who has all of the symptoms for autism however great at imitation. He will imitate everything, when I laugh he fake laughs. If hears crying he will cry, literally mimics every move I make however is nonverbal and In his own world when he does this. He doesn’t seem to do it in a playful way or trying to connect. He seems completely disconnected and in his own world when he does this. He been in occupational therapy and physical therapy did zero mimicking until after his second birthday and now mimicking is his only form of play/communication. He never does gestures spontaneously, only after I’ve done them first. Please help. Im wanting so badly to connect with my nephew but have no idea how to interact with him

It took me till my child was 8 yrs old to get a diagnosis of level 3 autism. When he was six months old he had encephalitis and meningitis at the same time which led to acquired HLH immune disorder and during the 5 months he was in a coma he suffer 5 strokes and I can't even tell you how many grand mall seizures he had. The fact that he lived is a miracle from GOD. Anyways everytime I brought up concerns I was told it's probably brain damage from the strokes. Now I just don't know what I'm suppose to do or even expect. Thank you for the information you gave I will absorb it and go from there.

I'm taking care of my 14year old granddaughter since birth after my husband passed away 3 years ago I moved in with her parents I understand her I know exactly what she wants or what she tries to say she can t speak but she can sing she is very musical at two years she starts tapping with a hairbrush and singing along with the songs on the TV now she doesn't want me to talk not on the phone or to someone she gets very upset she closed her ears and make s hhhmmmmm... when I am on the phone with someone she grabbed the phone and say bye to person and switch the phone of she has changed alot she is much calmer now when she was smaller she was very hyper she did not sit down for one minute she was clapping tapping the whole day but now enjoy watching tv

Sorry ahead of time for the long post! I’m worried about my toddler with a possible speech delay and maybe ADHD. He’s 23 months and a few days and seems to be having a hard time putting two words together to make a sentence. We think he’s done it a handful of times, but it’s hard to tell because he some of them are word approximations so he’s hard to understand. He will sometimes also use an ASL sign and then say “please” verbally, and I don’t know if that counts or not? He also seems a little lazy (for lack of better term) because he will sometimes use the ASL sign for a word. He knows how to say milk, but sometimes he’ll use the sign instead of saying the word verbally. Teachers have mentioned that he is super quiet at school (he also just moved classrooms and is in there with kids who are bigger than him so that could also have something to do with it previous that they were worried about his speech development). The reason I worry about ADHD is because it seems like he gets distracted in the middle of following my directions. Like I’ll say “go to your room and get a diaper” and he’ll start walking to his room but on the way to his room he might find a toy and start playing with it instead. Or I’ll say “get your shoes and bring them to me” and on the way back he gets distracted playing with his shoes. Sometimes he doesn’t respond to his name, but I’d say about 70% of the time he does respond. He doesn’t respond. He seems to be distracted by a toy or a book or something else (my husband also sometimes doesn’t respond when I call him as well, so I wonder if this is a learned behavior he picked up from dad?). My husband and I are both super ADHD so I know chances are high that he also has it. But I’m worried with him being so young it’ll be misdiagnosed as autism. Idk about autism really because, his so emotional skills are pretty fantastic. Even though he does take my hand and lead me somewhere he usually uses his other hand to point to the object he wants and then he looks back at me to make sure I understand. Or he will look at me and/or my husband, make really solid eye contact and say “hi”or “hug” (usually when it’s nighttime and he’s trying to prolong going to sleep 🤣😂). They also tell me he interacts with kids at school and plays with them and shares toys as well. He also likes to pretend feed his stuffed bear a cookie, or get Buc-ee the beaver to “drink” out of one of his stacking cups. He also likes to be funny and joke around with me and my husband. The only time he ever walks or walks with a wide stance is when he is in a silly mood and is trying to make us laugh, or is being mischievous. He does do repetitive behaviors from time to time, but it’s usually functional play that’s repetitive like getting different toys and sliding them down a slide or turning a Amazon box into a slide if he doesn’t see his regular slide and sliding down that. He also really likes cars and thinks it’s hilarious and tries to copy me when I pretend the car I’m playing with is flying. * edit to add he also pretends the role thing that pops is a vacuum and tries to “vacuum” along with my husband and I when we vacuum the floor. 💕🤣😂 **oh, he also doesn’t really nod yes, but will smile and get excited or sometimes say “Ye”. He’s been shaking his head no for a while though and seems to be in the process of learning the actual word now.

I hope you read this one day. My 2 yo is definetely speech delayed. I pulled her out of her daycare because I was under the impression that they would not teach them anything and every time I came in all the kids would be freely playing with any toy and teachers were doing other tasks. I have been observing her and she does not respond to her name but does very well at looking at when I point at something and sometimes she points at random things specially when doing stroller walks. Usually birds, airplanes and bunnies. She doesn’t say anything just makes “ehhh” sound for every time she points or wants something and points at it. She doesn’t do much pretend play and I feel that we just have all the toys but never teach her up until now. We don’t do much cleaning at all because we have hired help while we work and kids attend daycare 1 time a week. I have read literature that this pretend play really starts between 2-3 … she does play in her pretend kitchen and wants to give everyone a sip of water from her pretend fridge. Holds a baby around while doing it and I feel she sees me holding my 4 month old and drinking lots of water … I don’t cook either 😅 because luckily we are able to afford ready made meals delivery service weekly which she only sees me use the microwave and insterestingly she puts a lot of things in the pretend microwave. The toys don’t always make sense to me but that’s what she does. She spends about 5 mins in each play task. In my attempts to teach her anything I introduced play doh and taught her how to cut shapes… she picked that up right away. But still won’t give me any verbal feedback AT 25 months… on the side note she had 8 ear infections in 10 months the rest of the time she had colds and strep 3 times. Those colds sometimes included diarrhea and 1 time she had conjunctivitis…and just 3 days ago got ear tubes to chronic ear infections with efusión and ent says that this long term can affect her hearing and delay her speech. She is very sweet to her baby sister but I’m not sure she cares for when she cries. I understand that her ears are swollen for a couple of weeks post surgery and the speech pathologist is evaluating her next week I believe. I’m still so bothered she doesn’t look back when called unless it’s raising my voice. I’m not sure that she turns to look because of the tone of voice or because that’s what it takes to hear … her sedated hearing test after removing fluid suggested that she only has one ear with possible hearing loss for which the audiologist had to use a higher frequency to detect brain activity. We’lol see how things evolve moving forward. She is a loved little girl no matter what… She seems to copy us in things we do… yet no sound copying. She has a few words that rarely ever say and only the word go”seems intelligible when she uses it. She makes all the gestures in songs but doesn’t try to imitate it … she does tow walking sometimes usually when she tries to look on the counters. Although to be honest my oldest that is 9 now did that until age 4 or 5 can’t remember well… She does follow directions very simple…ñ

My 2 yr old about to be 3 barley has any words and has been at speech and ot for 10 months now. Does alot of these but i recently had him tested using the ados2 and they said he was not autistic and he has sensory processing disorder. He only has a expressive launguage and speech delay and not receptive. He has problem solving skills delay comapered to a 15 month old. He hasnt hardly made any progress in the 10 months and its really hard wondering why he doesnt want to talk. I have 4 kids and this is the only child i have that is behind. He also used to talk about 10 words at 15 months and he stopped using them. He doesnt even say mama anymore.

This was very informative. In regards to premature infants do you look at their adjusted age or chronological age ? My son was born at 24 weeks.

I pray you will see this message. I am so confused with my son. He was recently seen by a Speech Therapist who said that he was delayed in expressive language and Auditory Comprehension, I was referred to see psychologist to screen for Autism. He is 2 yrs 4 months. Since then I have significantly limited his tablet use and have been engaging him. He does not talk but he use gestures mainly to get muffin which he calls cake. He says the work cake and points. He seems to have eye contact but does not always respond to his name. Apart of me believes that he is unable to do certain things like pretend play because he was never taught. I brought over my daughter's kitchen set and we have been using it with the pretend food. He will put the bread in the toaster and put food stuff in the blender but he tries to eat the plastic food and he feeds it to me. I can tell there is a disconnect. He understands that it is food but does not understand why he can't eat it. However, I think it's because he was never exposed to that. Does what I feel have some plausibility to it or am I in denial???????❓❓❓❓❓❓

My daughter is 4 years old. Can’t speak any sentences. Has a hard time communicating with words. When I ask her: “want some noodles?” She replies: “some noodles” When I ask her: “are you hungry?” She replies: “you hungry?” She basically copies the last 1-2 words I say to her. She would be confused if I asked her an open ended question like “How are you feeling?” I’m really hoping it’s just speech delay. But if it’s autism, I feel like I’m prepared to take the steps needed to help her.
