Join me for a solo early spring hammock camp in the forest. On this camp i hangout by the campfire and do some Billy Pot baking with the firebox nano and the trangia. Such a simple way to bake in the bush! Thanks for watching and if you have any questions or just want to say hi feel free to comment below.

Even though you really enjoy reaching great mountain heights, the simple but amazing beauty of woodlands seems to be calling you. This is typical of your caring and kind demeanor. I love the way you only use natural lighting at night so as not to disturb the creatures. Very thoughtful and commendable !!

As a kid the woods were my playground. It’s a true happy place for me. At night, I definitely prefer just candlelight or the light from a campfire when outside. Even at home I prefer a candle to light a room in the evenings … it’s just so cozy 😀. Luckily the camera can capture things well enough so I can share the experience in the video. I do try to blend in as much as I can when outside. It was actually one of the reasons why I didn’t talk in my earlier videos. You definitely get to see more, like animals coming closer to camp. I really appreciate the thoughtful comment. Hope you have a great weekend! ATB

Nice trip. It warmed my heart to see you make the meal of my people. 😊 Were those Roe deer I heard in the background. I bought one of those bush belly pots. Haven't used it yet. Happy Memorial Day. Thinking of my dad today who passed in 1999. WWII Navy vet who served in the Atlantic and Paxific. He was a gunner on aircraft carrier. He survived on 13 ships which were torpedoed. Enjoyed this tranquil trip.

Glad you enjoyed watching this camp. I always enjoy getting out for a hammock camp. Such a great way to get a good nights sleep in the woods. The deer that often bark in these woods are muntjac. They are tiny dog sized deer. Your father sounds like an incredible man. The things he must have seen. Hope you have a nice Memorial Day weekend. Appreciate you watching another video.

😀 Thanks for watching! I was quite impressed with the fire pit as well! I have used it for grilling mostly but never just as a fire pit. You can build a pretty decent sized fire in it for something that folds down into a nice neat package. I still think the small vertical box style stoves produce a bit less smoke but this gives you that real open campfire experience 🔥😀. Very excited to get back into the mountains 👍 ATB

The oven worked really well. I was pretty excited about it! It was nice to have a meal that was tasty but easy also. I definitely enjoyed the extra time by the fire pit. Haha speaking of … yeah it’s nice. I know you have the Bushbox which I think has always been fantastic as a mini campfire but this thing was like having a proper open bonfire which was a nice change of pace. Definitely don’t need a fire that big all the time though, but on a chilly night it was nice to have! Hope you have a great Easter as well Rich. ATB

First time watching your channel. Really liked your cooking ideas and ideology. Did you have to refill the Trangia at all while cooking the lasagna? I’m wanting to purchase a billy pot. Do you find the 14 cm one sufficient or would the 16 cm size be a better all around pot? Will be watching more of you!
@GoingSoloOutdoors
@GoingSoloOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel! Yes I did have to refill it once. A full trangia normally lasts around 30-35 min or longer with the summer ring. A breeze can shorten that time. I prefer the 14cm because I’m normally just making food for myself. And it’s a good sized pot. If you want to bake larger items or cook for multiple people I’d recommend the 16. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Really appreciate the support! ATB

Hey just discovered your channel and loving the content - I'm from the UK myself and really curious on the perspective of an American who has moved to the UK. Lots of American backpackers use single wall shelters, frameless packs and more lightweight setups generally it seems than what the average UK backpacker uses. Do you find that with the UK climate being quite humid and cold these kind of items are less appropriate over here? Interested to hear if you have thoughts as I've constantly been tempted by the ultralight setups American hikers use but get put off going ultralight when I see people hiking in the UK with more traditional setups.
@GoingSoloOutdoors
@GoingSoloOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel! Sorry for the late response. The short answer to your question is yes, I do think those items are less appropriate here IMO. I got sucked into the ultralight craze many years back but then I realized I was still healthy and youngish and I could easily carry slightly heavier gear that was more durable and in many instance just better. Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of ultralight stuff that is absolutely incredible, but I wouldn't take a Zacks duplex out in the conditions I often find myself in here in the UK. It may work just fine but it wouldn’t be nearly as comfortable as one of my Scandinavian tents. Same thing with tents where the inner and outer tents are not connected. Those were the kinds of tents I grew up with in the states. They work well but using dual pitch tents where the ground sheet, inner and outer fly all pitch at the same time I have found extremely desirable here in the UK where the conditions can be a bit more unpredictable. I definitely think single wall shelters and ultralight gear have their place if you are finding your pack too heavy or if you are going on longer distance hikes but as someone who is only going out for a night or two I’d rather take gear that is a bit more durable, comfortable and sometimes safer. To give one example, I’ve had a Big Agnes tent pole break in the kinds of winds that we regularly experience here. My advice is to just be weight conscious with your gear and use a mix of ultralight and durable items. In my experience, your body definitely tells you when you need to lighten the load. Sorry for the ramble … I just love talking outdoor gear 🤣. Thanks again for watching some of my video!!
@dundar888
@dundar888 Жыл бұрын
@@GoingSoloOutdoors yeah I’ve been binging some of your Hilleberg videos, they seem extremely well suited to the conditions (except when you cliff camped in Yorkshire with your Enan!) - thanks for the detailed response, was always curious why KZfaqrs in America use different setups to KZfaqrs in the UK, wasn’t sure if it was just tradition and reputation or actually pragmatic based on conditions.
@GoingSoloOutdoors
@GoingSoloOutdoors Жыл бұрын
@@dundar888 haha yeah the Enan was definitely the wrong choice for that camp, although it did survive thankfully! The tents available in the states are definitely different. The cottage companies are really producing some cool stuff with durable ultralight materials but many bigger companies have been reducing weight over the years at the expensive of durability unfortunately.
