Have you ever owned a pet or even become slightly attached to the animals you grew up with on your farm? Why do you find it ridiculous that people view animals as somebodies when humans and animals have a deep ability to love one another? Even if you arent an animal lover - would you stop your car to let a goose and her chicks cross the road? Just because an animal isn't a human why can we not grant them the respect of recognising their sentience? It's obvious they feel pain and love towards their families just like people do. I understand the reason that you are killing certain animals to protect crops etc. But why then make the leap that animals are basically just objects?

Im speaking as an omnivore: - you are speaking as though animals are lesser purely because of our capability to kill them. They are victims of us eating them. We forcably produce these animals so there is enough food for us to eat; it would be better for the minority of animals if we didn't forcably birth them with the intent of using and then killing them. - There is no way to humanely kill something that is healthy and doesn't need to die. The nice sounding stuff on the labels doesn't change the fact that there is no humane way to kill a healthy animal of any kind. - those people oftentimes don't have a healthy vegan diet, and even if it wasn't possible to be healthy on a vegan diet if we have easily accessible supplements we still don't need to kill something to live healthy lives; it just seems easier to eat meat for those of us that do because that is all we know - whether animals are able to have compassion or not, that doesn't change the fact that we, an ANIMAL is able to do that but in a world where we don't need to eat animals we still ignore that compassion so we can have the joy of eating the tasty meat. - whether we are "custodians" of them or not, we still choose to give them a short life, and choose to force them into situations that they can't understand. We decide what animals deserve to live long lives and which ones deserve to die for our sensory pleasure. Even if we give a cow a good life, which i don't believe to be true as it is still an unnatural life, we still by our own choice decide that the life of a "pet" animal like a cat or dog is of more value than a "food animal" like a cow or pig, because the taste of a bacon burger has more value than the life of these animals so long as we can choose to be willfully ignorant of the actual practices which take place. Once again, i have an omnivorous diet and maybe eat vegetarian meals once a week, but you can't just dismiss what he says because you don't like the implications of what he is saying. Everything he said is true, but it is easier to dismiss what he says so we can look at the food we eat and not feel any guilt. It is okay for you to hear his words and not change your behavior, not everyone who has lived their life eating meat is going to change their actions, but you cant dismiss the truth which is that we are not naturally capable of killing animals and we have no real need to do so to live. The only reason it is still a "necessity" is because of the money it brings, but if no one went into stores to buy animal parts all that attention could go towards the alternatives which would be better for the climate and not require the needless murder of animals. In terms of health it might be better for us it might be the same, but so long as people have a balanced vegan diet and not a "fruitarian" diet it can't be worse for our health.

@@JustMe-os6ts "animals running away from danger or attacking someone who's hurting them is proof that they don't want to die" if you touch a hot stove you'll pull your hand away without having to consciously move your arm and hand. animals run on combinations of instincts based on their senses. I have never seen a cow, pig or sheep start drawing abstract shapes in the dirt with its hoof, or recognise itself in a mirror, and i dont think anyone ever will. "newborns and toddlers have no self-awareness and neither do mentally disabled people, so it's okay to kill them?" this is a fantastic question, but in order to answer any kind of morality question like this you have to first (1) state who or what the justification must be made to [the source of moral authority e.g. god to a religious person] and then (2) state WHY that thing or person is the moral authority to justify your position to [again, easy if youre religious] without these things there is no argument or agreement to be had, and even if there is, ethics are unfortunately not real at the end of the day. morality is a human concept, it does not exist outside of the realm of ideas, and is only able to exert an influence in the world if a human wrongly considers ideas to be real. the only "practical" function for ethics is for a human to know how to avoid being exiled for "wrong" behaviour

I am confused - you speak about wild sheep being at danger or being violently killed by foxes, but the farmed sheep people eat today are bred into existence by human beings. Of course farmed animals would not survive in the wild - humans have tampered with their DNA to suit our consumption. Is this what you mean or are you talking about a situation in which sheep would evolve again to be wild? Moreover, foxes do not have a moral compass, of course they will kill other animals for food. How is this an excuse to breed billions of animals into existence and kill them for food? Should we look to nature to decide our morality? If we did then rape would be justifiable. @Jules Juerez I'll give it a go... what else is there to do in lock down? (2:07) Ed is not equating cannibalism to eating meat. He is saying that if there are alternative diets that will sustain us, then we morally should not cause harm to animals. You don't have to value animal life as equal to human life to believe this statement. (2:43) Invalid point. Animal suffering in the wild does not give us the right to add to the suffering. Also, I personally would rather that the animals are never born than for them to live in awful conditions. (3:42) Says he doesn't like ad hominems but proceeds to use one. Applying his logic that Ed is pale so must be unhealthy; the meat eater in the video also looks pale to me. (4:05) Google search for supporting evidence of our ability to be vegan without supplements. There's even a statement about it on the NHS website. In addition, if everyone is vegan and all our resources go to developing better vegan food, then healthy vegan diets will become more accessible. (5:35) It is not anthropomorphism to provide scientific evidence of animals displaying moral behaviour. Srspower continues to create strawman arguments to make out that Ed is equating the morality of animals to humans. Even if this is what Ed believes, he's not actually saying this in the video. Ed is providing an example to show that animals can act morally, not that they are entirely equal in morality to humans. You don't have to believe humans and animals are the same to recognise that animals have sentience, experience emotions and should not be harmed. (11:30) "A wonderful situation for them" this one is subjective. The footage of factory farms doesn't shout wonderful to me.

Weak. You also emphasise the beauty and sacredness of life; implying a life of suffering is better than not being born at all. I wonder if you would extend this to say that an infinite human population is better than trying to limit it. You then discuss the nutrients of a vegan diet and argue you cannot have a healthy diet if you are vegan. I'm very impressed that you think yourself a more credible nutritionist than scientific experts such as those who published this paper www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3662288/ (i suggest you give it a read and check their 46 sources too - or are you satisfied that you are simply more knowledgeable than them because daddy sent you to a this private school?). You use anecdotal evidence which is pathetic and has been shown to be false by another comment. This inability to argue effectively is compounded by pathetic ad homina attacks - "you look a bit pale", try sunlight for vitamin D. Furthermore, I'm intrigued by your argument that all vegan weightlifters use supplements and the implication that non-vegan weightlifters do not. This is most certainly not the case, especially considering the majority of supplement products for weightlifting are not vegan. The example of rats Ed uses is not an anthropomorphism - what is your obsession with this word? The following biblical reference to show human's have consciousness is comical (and really juxtaposes your later critique of Ed's "frantic religious" belief). I wonder what is your opinion of how we should treat humans who are incapable of moral actions? Furthermore, morality is not the opposite to malevolence - benevolence is the word you are looking for. Are you familiar with the moral theory of Utilitarianism? This moral theory describes exactly what your rats were doing. Perhaps animals do act morally... i would really appreciate if you could discuss these issues i have raised with me, and after that i have some more for you to bat off.

The more of this video I watch, the more I pity you and your close-minded beliefs. Also showing you hunting during this video is extremely inappropriate. I hope one day you will realize how much suffering animals endure just so you can have a 'tasty' meal. Animals have emotions and think and feel just as much as humans do. Just because we cant communicate with them through language 100% does not mean they are lesser or unintelligent. They are not commodities for our consumption. They hurt just like we do, whether it be a cow having her male calf taken from her at birth so it can become veal or gassing pigs that are 6 months old so you can have bacon on your plate or pork for dinner. Ed preaches attitude over appetite to avoid animal products and I very much believe everyone is capable of doing so when given the right information. You make my head hurt and I hope people like you will change soon for the betterment of the world and your self.

And more to the point, eating eggs isn't the main issue, supporting the egg-industry and everything that goes on in that industry is the issue. Buying eggs is the only way that you and I can do to support it. so you know, maybe we shouldn't.

@minktrappingpaddy 5 жыл бұрын
@@mollyogrady1733 Well I do believe it can be. A little example of this is, and you may be familiar with this one. The Vincent wildlife Trust put an article in the National newspapers a year or more ago. The article was about the Pine Marten in Ireland, and that "studies" suggest that the Irish Pine Marten was predominantly vegitarian. This article was to counter another article from a local government councillor looking for a cull on the protected Pine Marten. Now we all know that the Pine Marten has a very varied diet, but to call it vegitarian! Now do a test on P Marten scat during Spring/Summer, and do another in Autumn/Winter, and you will get totally different results. Would this be seen as science being biased, or just the scientist? Either way, it's giving out inaccurate information. So, with reguards rats, or anything else that are used for these studies. Do pet rats behave the same as wild one's? Do rats behave the same in their natural environment, act the same as ones kept in captivity? Do wild rats living in a tougher, food scarse environment, act the same as a well fed and pampered pet one? Interested in your thoughts on this

@ElectronicSin

40% of mankind has a B12 deficiency. It's not a vegan problem, it's a problem of our modern, over sanitised way of life, farming and food production.
@ElectronicSin
@ElectronicSin 5 жыл бұрын
@Brian Woodrow Ok, so you take an ill person (whose illness is not caused by a vegan diet) and want to prove on this example, that vegans are malnutritioned. Ok... And if the sugar in a fruit stops your body from taking in Vitamin C... how does anyone on this planet get vitamin C? What are your sources? Vitamin C is also in Veggies, ok. But there is zero vitamin C in meat. Zero vitamin C in eggs and zero vitamin C in milk. You will actually die, if you eat only these things. Humans can live healthy on a vegan diet but you can't live healthy on an diet that is on animal products only. And B12... well. No plant and no animal can produce it on it's own. It's produced by microorganisms in the ground. Modern agriculture and a sanitary lifestyle caused a B12 deficiency on a broad spectrum of people. The majority of them eats meat. Google it if you don't believe me. It's because B12 is not heat resistant and around 80% is destroyed while cooking. And I guess you don't eat raw meat all the time, do you? And guess what? The B12 in your meat and milk is there because the farmer feed the animals with B12. So you are supplementing B12 as well but using a between host. Just take it directly and *tada*, no need to eat meat for nutrition. Maybe you can tell me what nutrients you get exclusively from animal products? Always open to learn something. Enlighten me!
@ElectronicSin
@ElectronicSin 5 жыл бұрын
@Brian Woodrow Brian Woodrow Lesson for you: Vitamin M, also known as B9 or folic acid is found in peas, whole grain, tomatoes, aspargus, salad, cabbage and soy. No need to eat meat. Sorry. B12 and vitamin C are unstable to heat. Google it. And I can't tell you why plant eating people start to eat meat and stuff again. Why do people quit smoking and start again? Why do people quit drugs and start again? Because they feel bad since they stopped doing it? Surprise! And in a world of people eating a heavy animal product based diet, let's be honest, it's hard to be a vegan. Some people can't handle the people making fun of them. And why do they feel bad after going vegan? There are tons of reasons. I felt bad during the time I ate animal products, I still feel bad sometimes. So nothing to do with what I eat I guess. But my mental health is better. The big thing is that vegan is not equal to healthy. If I ate french fries with ketchup and toast with marmalade all day, guess what: that's not healthy at all even though it's vegan. Just get your research done and eat the stuff that contains the nutrients you need and everything is fine.
