Sadly, you are wrong. This hedgehog was born in my home. I've kept and bred over 50 over the past decade. I've worked as a vet tech. All hedgehogs I kept lived over 6 years, and a few over 8 years (a record?)! They get the best care. This girl was the one and only that was always just a bit of a brat. Never once a single bite from any of my hedgehogs. They all trusted me fully, even this bratty girl.

@@Simon-oy7kf Wrong. My pet hedgehogs come from long lines of captive bred pet hedgehogs. Their great great great great great grandparents were pets in cages. It is all they know. They do not live wild in my country. They would not survive outside. The choice is keep them as pets, or, let them all die off. I choose to give them a good life. Now, wild animals should never be taken from their home and put in a cage. Only captive bred animals should be pets.

I got bit by a hedgehog a couple months ago, he hit a chunk of skin out of the tip of my finger and it was bleeding alot.

+KitsuneNarutoKun They will keep hanging on not due panic, but due to their nature. Remember, they are insectivores and tend to eat worms and such in the wild. If they start to struggle, the hedgehog will bite in further. They do the same with your finger.

My heggy has a bad habit of biting, and I've found this is the best method to use with him because it doesn't cause him any harm or stress. Just hoping it might help someone else too :)

I only have a mouse but yeah the same thing happens. he can hand off of my finger when i give him a treat because my fingers are so calloused from guitar he just hangs there, it's rather amusing.

Coop. But NEVER take an animal that is living outside / wild and take them and put then in a cage!!! They have their own life out there! They do not want you to touch them. Only buy pets that were bred and born in captivity. All they know is captivity and cages. Then give them an amazing life.

Awesome! I have tons of hedgehog videos. I worked as a vet tech for years, and, bred over 50 hedgehogs. This girl was always a bit of a brat. Never a single bite from any of my hedgehogs. All I kept lived over 6 years, and, a few over 8 years. Most important is food and temperature. Food is best kept simple. High quality cat food (no crap brands; I usually used Blue Buffalo Wildnerness, or Royal Canin adult indoor. In the dry cat food I mixed freezedried insects (can be bought for cheap and in bulk in Amazon). This was 85% of their diet. For treats I would often feed chicken breast (home baked with zero seasonings, cut up into small pieces). Some other treats from time to time. Fruit and veggies are ok, but, look up what is safe for hedgehogs and feed very sparingly. Temperature must be kept between 76F and 82F. Anything under 75F is unsafe and could cause symptoms comparable to wobbly hedgehog syndrome and cause death (people often think their hedgehogs have, or have died from, WHZ; however, they often just didnt keep their hedgehogs cage warm enough). Never use under tank heating. Only above tank heating. Ceramic heat emitter are best, but, red reptile heatlights I've used as well with zero ill effects. Don't just throw a light on and call it good. Temperature must be tested and monitored often. Better yet, get a quality thermostat to control the lighting to keep proper temperature.
