remember your trying to drag water under the pot itself.

OMG! You changed my life. After warping quite a few pots in the last week trying to take them off the wheel, I watched your video and warped zero pots today. Yeh! Love your videos by the way. I’m new at pottery and your videos are clear and fun to watch.

My teacher is a ceramics teacher but she lets me use the wheel to do pottery, she specializes in ceramics so she doesn’t know much about pottery, so when I need to learn something new your videos always help thank u!

I am taking 2 different classes. One I have been taking longer, there we use bats. When I started at the second one, they did not use bats and it was VERY difficult to take my stuff off. This video really helps! Also, I am trying to throw cleaner...

An important technique everyone should know. I've seen 'instructional' videos by a potter who threw everything on a bat - a great lesson could be taken from you.

my wheel is polyethelene and it has these weird tiny grooves that spiral around the entire wheel, so this method doesn't work very well for me. I still use it when I'm using a wheel in the studio I work in but when I'm at home when I throw larger things I have to rely on bats or just leave my stuff on the wheel until its dry enough to take off

Or: How to hideously disfigure your rims for amateurs. At least the first few times I practiced this. Do you do this with large mixing bowls? I remember the first time i threw a large (~14 in bowl) and looked at it and thought "damn that's nice...now how do i get it off?" I borrowed pot lifters, ha ha

I tried this but no matter how many times I slide the wire under the pot it won't come off... I tried taking it off with my hands but it just seems too soft to touch without messing it up. Is their something I'm doing wrong?

Put more water and slice faster. many people think it's only supposed to work after one slice but that's not true. It usually takes about three slices ( with water)

Are you supposed to trim the clay near the wheel?

Also do you have to wait until the clay is a little bit dry

I wonder why you put water so far from your piece befor wiring it of. The closer you put the water, the shorter way it has to move in order to hooverplane your piece.

I'm afraid of cutting the piece indirectly

Can you wait till the pot is leather hard before removing?
@drakekoefoed1642
@drakekoefoed1642 2 жыл бұрын
you can and it might pop off by itself, but the bottom can crack because uneven drying, so use the cut wire first and then let it get leather hard.

I used to do it kind of like this in 78 but just dragged with the wire. my ultra top secret great trick [looks that no enemy agents are watching] is this: i put water all over the wheel and the wood. then i stick a 2x4 block under the wheel (Kitty does not use a sissy splash guard) and then a piece of wet 1x8 on top of the 2x4. then i get the pot sliding with the wire and run it right onto the block without touching it and making paw prints. but then i have to sort of jerk the wire out from under and sometimes i have to diddle with the bottom later to get those marks off and foot the pot. this i do with the other secret tool, don't let anyone know...a spoon. You will steal this idea and make the video. oh, yeah, you will say no, you would not do that, and then you will use the method you show here except with the two bits of wood (new wood is for fat cat dicks, and all true felines use old junk) which will make your method easier and safer for mr. pot. but then after a while, you will be thinking of something to do on you tube or odysee or wherever, and you will steal my idea. i forgive you.
