Thank you. I cant wait to use newspaper to keep the rim of bowls in round. I noticed the edges of your ware boards. Mine were that way too. But I would occasionally get drywall in my clat. I found some pretty duct tape (ugly old grey would work but it would bring me no joy.) to dress the edges. Worked great so far. You probably don't remember any comments comments I left before. Mainly that my shop was small, cramped, and over flowing because I'm a multi medium artist working in a 12'x16' dry studio. I wanted to share there is light at the end of the tunnel for me. I am getting an additional 12'x12' of work space and. . .and. . .a bathroom! This may seem only mild to some but anyone that has had to dash 75' from a work space to the house with a full bladder in -20 below weather will appreciate the coo a lieu can be. I'm so happy I just gotta share.
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right I was going to put duck tape on. But the drywall has not given me a problem as of yet. That is AWESOME!!! I would want to share also. I totally understand. Mine is 12x16 if you get a chance check out my studio setup video. here is the link for you kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9yjoqqonNebnYE.html A bathroom is a big deal. Thank you for sharing 😊

@@PotteryCrafters Thank ya. I was all over that video the day it came out. My husband may blame you. 😁 The annoying thing is, I sold some baker shelves, just like the ones you are using for glaze, at my garage sale a while back. I really need to invest in a crystal ball app, cuz it looks like those shelves were perfect for the job. I think I might have an old metal and wood bakers rack if my husband didn't leave it out in the weather. (The things ya deal with when you want to stay married). . . . . .(hmm? Could this be why I "throw" things? Lol) Not gonna break my stride. I'm just bouncing with energy. Working on the new work space feels good.

Do you suggest one wire pull when cutting off the bat?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 3 ай бұрын
Yes I do. If you do it twice you can risk cutting into the clay unevenly.

Dear Marie, again you gave some great tips on a very important topic. I always do it in a circle, but when I remove it from the potter’s wheel it becomes elliptical or I have to wait too long and I waste time. First of all thanks. I want to ask two questions. First, Can I get it off the wheel immediately after I've finished or should I wait? My second question is how does the newsprint you put on it keeps its edges firmly? I hope I could explain what I wanted to say correctly 😀
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 3 жыл бұрын
Great questions Kiran, The tenion of the newspaper keeps the clay in place. That's why you should wet the rim first. You can wait a little bit if your pottery is really soft otherwise just do what I did in the video. Get the slip off, keep your hands dry and make sure there is water on the wheel so your pottery can slaide off. 😍👍💖

Laura here. Thank you It looks like your left hand/thumb is mostly stationary while your right hand/thumb moves more toward you. Is this observation correct? I never get a straight bottom. I think my wire is much longer than yours. I may have to get the one like yours. Thank you. 😊
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Laura. Yes, you must keep the wire pressed on the wheel for an even cut. Here is the link for a shorter wire cutter. It is my favorite one. geni.us/vzvZIup only 11inches long 😊

Hello Mary! Suzie here☺️ I have made my first 2 plates, on bats but…. Didn’t think of wire cut it from the bats😱 its been a day… should i try and wire it now? Or let it dry more and it should detatch at some point? Thanks again for all your help🤩

How do you stop the rim from being uneven when pulling up the sides?🥴
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 7 ай бұрын
Hi Clair. Good question. The reason why the rim is uneven is because the clay was slightly off center when you were pulling up the clay. You will notice that the clay will be a bit thicker on that side also. You can take your needle tool and Cut off the top. I did this in one of my wine bottle holder video to show what to do if this happens. Here is the link for you. It's about 3 minutes in kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMh-esp1l9jciHU.html 😊

Aloha and mahalo Marie! I am wondering how you remove plates and platters from a bat? Thank you!suzy
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
Aloha Suzy 😊 Good Question. You can actually take the bat off the wheel and let the plate sit until it comes off the bat on it's own. and yes that will take a while. Or let the plate sit until it is almost leather hard and remove it with your wire. I never remove my plates right away. I find them to be the hardest to remove.

@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion, Cindy.😊 Next time I make a plate I will show how I get it off the wheel. With plates, you have to exercise I bit more patience. I get all the slip off with my rib then walk away and do something else in the studio, like wedge some clay. Let your plate dry out a bit. Make sure you get water in between the wheel and your plate when you wire it off. I hope this helps. 😊

@PotteryCrafters

Yes Clara it is.😊 They work great and I can easily cut them to the size I like. I found a half-inch thick is better than the three-quarter-inch. The three-quarter-inch thick felt too bulky for me.

@@PotteryCrafters i think I will(because I know me) put duct tape around the edges so I don’t get plaster bits in my projects. I suppose I don’t need to worry about it drawing out the moisture to quickly. I think I will keep an eye out at the near by construction sites so I can ask them for their scraps.
