Last summer I was awarded my EASA Instrument Rating (Restricted). During my flight test we flew from Barton to Blackpool for an ILS, then my instructor put me through my paces on the way back to Barton, including full and limited panel work. I've decided to document my experiences, as a pilot who has until now flown almost entirely VFR, and share how I am finding the training process to gain an IR(R). I hope this will be a helpful series and will help existing VFR pilots who might be considering the IR(R) to assess whether they want to start the course and how they might find it.
