sharpening a knife is easier than you think and you will need 3 quarters and a wets stone to get started

Bro, holy crap, thanks. I've always struggled using sharpening stones because I can't keep a proper angle. The quarters tip is crazy, I appreciate you.
@stephenlambert98262 ай бұрын
I think you will find that it won’t help that much,most of the skill is keeping the angle as you go through the motions and if you notice the coins are not constantly under the knife.you can buy a small tool that stays with the knife and keeps a perfect angle at all times and they don’t cost much at all.

Such a simple tip. I’ve always held the knife to low the quarter got me in point
@allnighter294911 ай бұрын
Watched this video to try and sharpen my knife, i was able to get a pretty satisfying result. Instead of using the motion depicted here I found it easier to first hold the knife parallel to the stone and then sliding it towards me while slowly curving the knife towards the tip.
@RossTheRandom10 ай бұрын
No offense, but this is terrible advice unless you want to ruin your edge. The best way to find your angle (which is different for every blade) is to lay it flat against your stone, then lift it *just* until the apex touches the stone. 3 quarters stacked will create varying angles depending on the width of the blade you're trying to sharpen, getting you nowhere.. slowly.
@mytrigger561310 ай бұрын
I see your point. 2 quarters on a pocket knife would be crazy steep
@RossTheRandom10 ай бұрын
@@mytrigger5613 Right, and even if you just stick with a common angle, like 20 degrees for example, you'll only wind up reprofiling the edge on some of your knives. Which ain't fun lol!

A magnetic angle guide with a level would help any beginner. I got mine on amazon but i havent used it with whet stones. But i have restored a razor sharp edge with the ceramic part of a sharpal pull through sharpener, by putting the level right on the back of the knife where it can lay flat. Its made for flat surface stones though.

If you don't apex and create a burr it will never be sharp, and if you don't remove the burr at the end it will make your knife feel dull after a single use, if you don't know what that means then you need to look it up before trying to sharpen, it's pretty simple, but he did not even explain the basics

@Arcamea8 ай бұрын
If you're knife is super dull, then you will need to go to a coarser/lower grit stone like a 300 or 400 grit to establish a new edge. Then when you have removed enough metal, and you feel a burr, then you can move on to a 1000 and then polish/refine the edge and finish on a 6000 grit stone.
@JohnPreston8885 ай бұрын
So...follow this example, and you will end up with ruts in your stone. But hey, that's why a virgin stone is being used for this tutorial. Gullible's Travels. (Other people have pointed out different errors. Aside from The strange Capitalisation for The title Of the Video...)

That doesn't work, that would only work if your knife already had that angle. The easiest way to do it is to lay your knife flat. While sliding your knife forward lift the spine your knife until you feel your knife grab. Verify with a sharpie.

the easiest way to make a sharp knife or scissors blunt is to cut paper. So using a piece of paper to demonstrate is stupid. Plus, even the bluntest scissors or knife will cut paper…it proves nothing.
