This has to be the EASIEST WAY to turn a mock turtleneck into a flattering V-neck. It's lightning fast and beginner-friendly! If you can't quite see what I'm doing when I understitch, please check out this video: • 10 Sewing Tips to Take... .
The sweater I’m using in this video has no seam at the neckline, but even if yours does have a seam, you can still make this technique work. You might have to cut your neckline a little wider to avoid the seam, but I think you can still create a beautiful and flattering V-neck.

Love this! You never hesitate at that first cutting action! So inspiring! I find V-necks to be most flattering and buzz right past so many knit tops without them, not any more though! I have gotten quite experienced at altering a t-shirt from crew to V-neck, but this makes me want to go thrift a sweater and try it! 🥳 I need a project to feed my soul during these very short, dark days! As always, thank you & well done!😊

Newbie here, just catching up on your great tutorials. Upcycling, for me, has been a great way to express creatively thru the years as well as saving perfectly good fabric from the landfill. I love your time-saving tips! I just finished making a toasty lined zippered vest from a beautiful pleated wool plaid skirt. After taking out all the pleat stitching, I had almost five yards of 45" wide fabric! More projects to come from just one thrifted skirt. Happy to have found your channel!

I know you are not a fan of turtlenecks, but I live in them from October to June. I prefer for the turtle to really hug my heck, no drafts allowed. I often see turtleneck sweaters at the thrift stores where the only thing stopping me from purchasing them is that the turtle is loose around my neck. I think that some of my favorite sweaters were donated because someone thought the neck was too tight but it's just the way I like it. Do you have any suggestions for decreasing the width of a turtleneck? I'd love for you to show us in a video.
@CatherineSews
@CatherineSews 7 ай бұрын
Haha, I'm sure we'd get along fine as thrifting buddies because we'd be searching for opposite things! I'm sure you could make the neck smaller by removing the turtleneck, making it a smaller tube, and then sewing it back on by just stretching it a bit to fit the neckline. The original neckline would probably accommodate it easily.

@CatherineSews

Hmmm, good question. The outer edge of my facing was the same measurement as the neckline that I cut. So I guess you can cut your neckline, then duplicate that shape as the outer edge of your facing. Make sense?
