This is how to calculate engine Torque vs engine Horsepower.
What is engine Torque? Well, torque is a turning force, or, put another way, a force in a turning motion. Torque does differ from Horsepower quite considerably, but Torque is a necessary part of the equation in determining Horsepower, and Horsepower is a necessary part of the equation in determining Torque.
What is Horsepower? Horsepower is the engine's turning force (Torque) Multiplied by 5,252, then divided by the engines RPM value.
You need to know the engine's displacement, the combustion pressure, and the speed of the crankshaft in order to compute engine torque.
Here's how to determine engine torque step-by-step:
Identify the engine displacement: The entire volume swept by an engine's cylinders is referred to as the engine displacement. Typically, it is expressed in terms of litres (L) or cubic centimetres (cc). The displacement figure can be found in the engine specs or by measuring the cylinders' bore and stroke and applying the right formula for the engine design.
The rotating speed of the crankshaft is commonly expressed in revolutions per minute (RPM). Since torque calculations normally employ SI units, you will need to convert RPM to radians per second (rad/s) in order to do so.
For the conversion, use the following formula:
Angle of rotation (rad/s) equals RPM (2/60). Note: The calculation uses 60 to convert minutes to seconds and 2 to denote the number of radians in a full circle.
Determine the pressure: Variables such as engine design, fuel mixture, and turbocharging can affect the pressure at which combustion takes place. To get the combustion pressure value, consult the engine specifications or make use of dynamometer data.
Calculate engine torque using the following formula once you have the engine displacement (D), rotational speed (N) in rad/s, and combustion pressure (P):
Torque (T) is equal to 0.5 D P N / 60. Note: To account for the pistons' reciprocating motion, the value 0.5 is frequently employed.
Convert units: The displacement and pressure values used will have an impact on the torque value. In order to get the correct torque unit (such as Newton-meters or pound-feet), make sure the units are consistent and convert if needed.
It's vital to remember that this computation, based on the provided values, provides an approximation of engine torque. Several variables, including engine efficiency, air-fuel ratio, engine temperature, and mechanical losses, can affect actual engine torque.

Love this video, could you please explain to me the intercross rpm value. I have a made a dyno in my workspace, with a 420cc engine with 14 or 15 horse power. Spinning at 2500rpm and in trying to calculate the torque but I’m stuck! Any help apprciated. Great content btw

I tried this with a small block 5.3 engine making 325 hp. I did the formula of 325x5252= 1,706,900 and divided that by 2,600 rpm and the formula tells me that a 5.3 LS with 325 hp has 656 ft lbs of torque at 2,600 rpm. That figure is profoundly incorrect though.

hmm. the scientific formula tells me 14,7 lbf,...and this formula tell 15+ ...it.s good enough for choosing a gear ...or belt for a reduction drive..each reduction multiplys the torque..btw.
