Let's call it 25 years, as of this moment. The new Michelle Fowler was just not the same character at all. I know I'd rather forget about it. We need a storyline which briefly explains that it was an imposter, so that our good memories of a legendary character and actress are fully restored.

@@hannahrogers200 She'd retired from acting though and I'd say it's not that easy to just go back. She's a full time director now and so that's her job, she just can't opt out when it suits and go back to her old job. Eastenders is filmed in elstree outside London and she could be working somewhere in Scotland or Wales on a job so it's not like she can just turn up on eastenders whenever she takes fancy. Think about it, would you return to an old job for a short stint?

God some parents are really controlling over their kids. Particularly daughters. Pauline wasn’t this horrible to Mark when he left. It seems sons are favoured over daughter’s when it comes to choices and freedom. Best thing Michelle did was get away from miserable Pauline!

This is the sort of response I'd probably get from my family if I moved. Family takes things way to personal. You got to do what's right for yourself. How about supporting her and telling her she always has a home to come back to.

@K90_ 2019 Arther has the right idea. I feel for Pauline she likes her family around her but she is more afraid of letting her go than supporting her daughter. Think of it like this. If someone told you you can't do something, you'd want to do it more. If you hang onto someone for dear life it suffocates them and they want to get away even more. It's probably a generational thing that dates back a long time about always putting family first but without her family around her Pauline is underneath it all very lonely. She is a little controlling and likes things her way but so do a lot of people. I remember my Mom going fancy letting your child live halfway across the world, about a neighbour without you I wouldn't allow it and my Mom like Pauline too, us underneath it all very lonely and suddenly doing something for yourself to people like Pauline and my Mom is selfish to them, because they sacrificed themselves for family but from a child's perspective you want your parents to support you. I know my Mother doesn't if I wanted to move to Australia and become a vet, she'd try putting me off or getting someone to stop it she wouldn't think about supporting carear choices or passions of mine that aren't of interest to her and because of that she said to my husband last year she doesn't know what to get me for Christmas because she doesn't know me. I'd have told her if she was interested in having a conversation about deep meaningful things but not a lot of people are so I've just respected that she's not that way inclined but she doesn't know me, she doesn't know what my interests are and that's very sad, my husband had to tell her what to get. When I wanted to learn guitar he went and found my guitar lessons my Mom wouldn't do that. She'd look at that and think what a waste of time

Sorry, I thought you were a decent human being. My mistake. That ain't love, in that clip, it's about her realising she'll be on her own. You can be upset about something and think of someone else at the same time but she's taking away her daughters voice, power to choose what she wants to do with her life, that's what I don't agree with. Her daughter isn't five or six she's a fully grown woman.

@shanefolan

i don't agree. The show has never had a consistent golden era despite the claims that the 80s were the best when around 1989 the show was criticised for losing its touch and in 1990 cast culls and a revamp happened to give it a boost or improve it. The show has always gone in cycles- some brilliant, some ok and some downright awful. A good section of 2003 and 2004 were blasted for being bad quality for example. 2005 saw great improvement but since that it has gone in waves depending on who the director is but it has always been like that ad eras like the 08-10 era were some of the greatest stuff they ever did or other great eras were 2014-2016 and the show has being in a very good place since the directer Sean O Connor left. Some of the 90s eras were also criticised for being poor. Do not mistake higher ratings of the past for higher quality, the ratings were higher in the past because there was no internet and most people only had 4-6 channels.

you'd be surprised. In my workplace, somebody was stealing coffee out of the staffroom. I am talking opening the jar pouring vast amounts out and then putting it back as if nobody would notice and people were stealing colleagues' suit work jackets if they left them unattended. I know suit jacks are actually expensive but still an odd thing to steal from a workplace. Completely bizarre what people would steal, we thought it was the cleaners as the thefts were done after hours.
