So a few months ago I attempted to 'recreate' the EastEnders theme tune all the way back from 1985. Samples used were the lead piano, intro toms, sitar and steel drums. I generated the bells, pads, strings, piano chords, percussion and the whistle through Logic.
VSTs used were Korg M1 and DX7 (Dexed). All the rest were just built in with Logic.
Drum machine was, of course, LinnDrum. Gotta try to get that authentic sound y'know. Same with those bells...
Anyway it's only a demo. Haven't acquired the full knowledge of mixing and mastering but it was just for fun of course.
Next is 1993. Any saxophone players around...?

I'd like to take a minute to remember how great the 80s eastenders was and salute all them who made it great Pauline Pete Arthur Lou dirty den Angie Ethel little Willie the dog rolly the dog . So many actors who are no longer here with us from the original .

Donna Wilkins I’m watching the classic 80s episodes on Drama channel on Sky. I prefer the classic 80s episodes. As you said all the 80s characters made it great. Pauline, Arthur, Michelle, Lou, Pete, Cathy, Ian, Den, Angie, Mary, Lofty, Debbie, Naima, Dr Leg, Dot, Nick, Sharon, Wicksy, Pat, Ethel, Rolly and Willie. (I hope I’ve mentioned them all lol)

At 0.08, there's a high string faintly in the background. i'm so glad you added that, the little details always help.

I can't get over how close to the original this is ...and to get an applaud from Oliver Secker says it all...it actually is such a fitting tribute to the original as the modern audio equipment and resulting better quality recording makes the whole arrangement (sitar sounds , bells etc ) more clearer but crucially still gives the overall intended pathos / "gritty real-life-pub-knees-up-with-a-piano" sound , centre -stage which I hate the 1994-2009 theme for as it got rid of it in favour of a "sweeter " melody and weaker bass that is not in keeping with the show.

Wow thank you so much! I'm not a professional or anything, I was just really playing with sounds and using them with the multitracks that were released 10+ years ago. It's not 'properly' mixed or mastered but I did what I could. It was more for fun really! Can't believe it's been two and a half years since I uploaded it!

You're welcome ..have fond memories of lying on the floor as a kid loving old school Enders and drumming along to the epic original end credits ...was very unimpressed even as a kid.. when they stopped using it

This is actually impressive - it sounds like the original but in the style of today. I really want to use all your sequencing gear and have a go myself!! :-)

This is amazingly accurate! Well done! I am in the process of making my own intro for EastEnders, and I'd like to produce my own version of the theme too. The only instrument giving me any trouble is that distinct EE piano. Could you give some guidance on which VST/ samples you used to recreate it. I'd be very grateful! Andrew :)

they didn't, i believe its taken from the official stems released by the bbc for a remix competition in 2009 for E20. i'd post the link but youtube would probably delete my comment

I attempted that also. Sounds like a mixture of both the 1994 and 2009 theme all in one. Might upload it some time after a few tweaks. Glad you enjoyed this.
