"keep it quiet here comes Dot Cotton, the bush telegraph, if she finds out, it will make her day", or " Dot Cotton was in Dr.Legg's surgery , complaining as usual about her migraines". There use to be a Dot in our neighbour hood, she was a lolly lady, she was always called Dot Shepherd, never just Dot., some grown ups called her Lolly, even after she long retired.

This version of the tune is great - the only bad part is the saxophone, which makes it sound slick, schmaltzy and Carribean. If you replaced the sax with the iconic "whistle" noise, this would have been an excellent update. Oh and this has reminded me how long end credits used to be! I remember now, whenever you changed channel, half the time it would be on end credits, so you'd have to sit there for 5 minutes waiting to see what was on next (unless the channel was closing down for the night) LOL

I think because Dot was such a popular character (and still is) the public would refer to her outright as Dot Cotton as opposed to "Dot from EastEnders". Hence why she was credited with her surname. Probably way off here lol, but it's just my theory. She's been a Branning for 10 years now, but the press and public still say Dot Cotton.......and rightly so :P
