Excellent writing and continuity here which was always EastEnders strong point and very realistically acted , Kathy was never written as a bitchy character and was very insecure and shy for many years as a result of her teenage pregnancy etc. Pauline turned into a bitter, very judgemental, stressed woman, old before her years which was again understandable and proportionate given what the character went through. Kathy grew in confidence after distancing herself from the Beales and began to make her own decisions about her destiny . The major fault she made in my opinion was getting involved with Phil Mitchell .once a wrong 'un always a wrong 'un.

Kathy had some good points here about Lou. She could be nasty and rather vicious at times, not all the time but some times. The thing about Pauline she knew how to dish it out, but when she herself was on the receiving she did not always take it so well. Badmouth someone else that's fine, but get the same in return that's a no no.

@@theeastendboy No Lou Beale was Pete, Pauline and Kenny's Mum. Arthur was Fowler not a Beale. And Kathy also refers to her as your mother just before the slap.

It's not that she can no longer act, the problem is with four episodes a week there is not as much time to learn their lines and scenes of dialogue are much shorter. Back when it was two episodes a week the cast actually had time to rehearse and they had the time to be written vast quantities of dialogue. Nowadays many of the actors in it are not up to much; especially the younger ones, there is a lack of proper character actors, the plots are overly PC and are driven by the stories rather than by the characters. It's why I no longer watch it.
