Nice review but don’t forget how much the volume knob does on a Jr. I own this guitar and love it. Blows away the current Gibson version.

Excellent review, I bought one a couple of weeks back although it has a allen key adjustment for the trussrod. It has a single action trussrod although Eastman are planning to do dual action trussrods in the near future. However, the first SB55/V I tried I was unable to get the action anywhere close to what I prefer as the strings were touching the pole pieces (must have been the neck angle). Anyway got one that works for me and I can get a low action with plenty string clearence. Custom shop quality for sure!

I've got one of these. I have about twenty other guitars. This is the only one i've played for the last three months. I'm an old guy so i've had a lot of vintage guitars. Including a couple original les paul juniors. If you took out the cool factor and the fact that the originals are really valuable I would prefer the eastman because it's just better as an instrument. The fret work is insanely good. The neck shape is amazing. If you buy one you will love it.

Violin varnish finish. Very slick, very open sounding. I trust a company that makes violins and mandolins, to know how to make a wooden guitar body. I got mine used and having done anything to it but change strings. Looks like an old Gibson student model but is actually a much higher quality instrument.

The finish is violin varnish, not nitro. Better than nitro.

Impressive guitar

Awesome video. Lots of very useful tips and bits of information about the guitar. You mentioned having to unlock something before adjusting bridge height (right around 10:10) - were those the same screws that would be used for intonation adjustment and you simply loosen those before adjusting the action (and then try and get them back to the same spot)? Nice use of text on the screen to let us know where the tone is set. That tone knob really seems to work, unlike some guitars (audio taper?) where they do almost nothing until 1. I don't think they come with speed knobs. It's possible that Eastman did use those at one point (they're bell knobs in the image on Eastman's website), but I think they've just used the wrong knob term on their website, and retailers just copy and paste that info.

That guitar looks much better w/o the pick guard. I would keep it off.

“Wider than normal, thicker than normal”.. does that mean thicker and wider than a normal 55 Gibson or what is the comparison to?
