When you started the Diesel engine up, I thought, ‘Wow! That sounds like my tractor!’ And then you mentioned it’s a Kubota engine. I looked it up and the reason it sounds like my tractor is because it’s the same engine; the D902. It’s a solid engine and a good choice. What a great machine!

Another awesome machine Andrew! Have you experimented with using an accumulator to increase return speed? It probably wouldn't make any difference on something as fast as the 24D but maybe it could on smaller more economical models. A factory I worked at used banked accumulators on their presses to move a one meter diameter piston at speeds similar to the 24D, fifteen strokes per minute.
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters 2 жыл бұрын
You're right on with that jimmy. The only issue os the back pressure the accumulator adds to the cylinder. I think what you would gain in speed you would loose in overall power.

On your conveyor, why don't you have a power beyond valve on your splitter valve going to another valve to raise and lower the conveyor and power the belt?
@frontyardfirewood
@frontyardfirewood Жыл бұрын
Quick question, would that conveyor be able to be hydraulic powered from the splitter? Thus saving the second engine and fuel cost for the conveyor? Just was wondering, if the conveyor would cut out as the splitter does the power stroke, and then on the react conveyor would move? Or just run 24-7 but at a lower flow rate as to not take away from the splitter ram extending?

Hi Andrew!!😀😀 You really hit a home run with that splitter. That thing is a animal!! On the 22mb that you sent to Chris. Could you make a 6 inch taller pedestal for the seat and send it to him so we don't have to do something with raising it. I hope I'm not out of line for asking but when I was running it for him it was one of the only things I didn't like about operating it. It makes it hard to see and too reach the engine control as low as it is right now. The only other thing I was wondering about is why didn't you center the axles better so it doesn't have so much toung weight. I'm a little nervous about hooking it to the back of my 3/4 ton dodge for fear of breaking the hitch or bending the frame. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters 2 жыл бұрын
We could definitely do a taller seat for sure. The axles are a tricky thing with an attached conveyor. @@EastonmadeWoodSplitters I saw the video of you pulling the 22mb with your truck but that one had the smaller engine on it and I would be surprised if the wind from towing it would lift more than a couple hundred pounds at the most. Are you considering making the lower section of the log lift removable? I can see this and many of your splitters being operated by two people one on the controls, one putting rounds on the lift which would be left in the up position. With that lower section in place the one putting rounds on the lift has to clear that lower section or catch their elbow/forearm on it. Also is that wheel fender removable? Looks like that forward edge is sharp and right at knee/shin height. It is an amazing machine you built but when you start moving fast enough to keep up with it accidents happen and removing some of the potential hazards is a good idea.

We have a couple of videos of the log lifts on our machines. It actually "floats" down so there is no pressure. @@EastonmadeWoodSplitters KINDLING MACHINE The sooner you get a kindling machine the sooner you can get some first or second hand feedback on it to help you engineer the Eastonmade model. Better than getting just one would be to get one from each firm. You have the skill to identify weaknesses. We probably have tougher trees but I expect they have already studied that issue by importing trees or exporting machines. They look to me like the next generation of splitters. Fast, low power, easy to operate, no respliting, adjustable, pieces not roughed up. If you want to stay on The Cutting Edge, I suppose that is what you will need to do. Do this project while you are still young. I see it as having a lot of potential. You are the man for the job, right? You have recent experience doing that sort of thing. I have no idea about the patent restrictions. It would be good if you could use the same parts that you already use, but I don't know whether that would be possible. I don't know much about that concrete machine but if you want to downsize, you might sell it off. The same thing with bundling machines. They don't seem to fit with what you do. You may not be good at bundling machines. Following the development of the kindling machine you will need to develop a machine to generate the rings (rounds) that go into the kindling machine. I don't know whether you could simply adapt a processor or whether you would need to design from scratch. I am not sure what is needed but I do like the circular blade. I saw a circular blade machine that has the wood stand still while the blade moves into it (like a processor). Mike Morgan gave an interesting statistic that 1% USA houses heat exclusively with wood. If that were to go up to 2%, that would be a huge increase. I suppose you could travel over to where they are built and used to take some notes. If a machine becomes obsolete, it doesn't really matter if it was made to last a long time. The price of labor will come down as we move into the economic depression.

@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters yea but unfortunately at this time sounds like the only thing left available is a axis I really like the axis but think for what I need at this time the ultra is a better fit but still thinking about it though lol

@@briantownsend9148 I would say the Axis is more special purpose. Don't get it unless you need it. Production rate is relatively slow. I could be wrong.

@@jakebredthauer5100 it looks like the cycle time is the same as ultra but no 4 way wedge available your right I think it’s more of a speciality machine it has some great features for sure but more thinking the ultra is gonna be better fit I have a old hay elevator I’ve converted to using for wood the ultra would be perfect to push the wood into it lol but still kinda in air don’t no if axis is worth the extra money to me for the “benefits”… plan is to go for the ultra and work towards a processor

@@briantownsend9148 You didn't say why you would need one. Because you identified no reason to buy an Axis, I advise the Ultra. If you got the Ultra but never did get the processor, you would still have something that you could continue to use. What is it about the Axis that matches your wood? What is it about your wood that matches the Axis?

I think i have a video of it somewhere. It does slow down a little more than the 37D. You would want to have cleaner wood for it.

DUDE!! that's too fast. Andrew are you ok? You need to be an Olympic athlete to keep up with that machine for more than 10minutes. No doubt Eastonmade has the best firewood product right now. These machines are amazing to see in person. The videos are great and do some justice, but live action is fierce. I love my 12-22 and have trouble keeping up with it even with an extra hand. This 24D I think you could probably have 3-4 hands on it. @ can bring the wood to the splitter while you have 2 running the machine on either side. Just keep feeding it and feeding it. I bet you could split 4 cord an hour like that maybe more. Just amazing!!
