Finally! The Eastonmade ULTRA log splitter is here on KZfaq for all of you to see in action.
Today I do a debut and review for you on the Eastonmade ULTRA splitter.
I got it just about two months ago now and I have split over 100 face cords (35 full cords) with it. It is three times as fast as my old box store Woods 27 Ton (glacier) splitter. The old splitter was a good machine, it was just slow and worn out! I split over 100 face cords (335 full cords) with it!
The new Eastonmade ULTRA splitter is much faster with a cycle time of 5 seconds compared to ~16-17 seconds with the old Woods (glacier).
So watch and enjoy finally!
P.S. Working on the back catalog of video still as well with more Eastonmade ULTRA action. My MacBook Pro (2009) for editing is also like the Woods (glacier) slow and worn out! Ha. More to come!

No brands mentioned but it took me over a year to make my decision when I decided to go with Eastonmade. I looked at a lot of other brands and I am so happy I went with Andrew. My 22-28 is a production monster and when something ugly comes up the 22-28 even with a 6 way wedge just smashes it. No better splitter on the market than a Eastonmade.

I have a Timber wolf splitter from Vermont. I wish I had seen Andrew's splitters before I got mine but I have had it for over 10 years, It is the TW-1 with a 4 way head and is really impressive for as small as it is. I like the ultra and think it would be nice. I like Andrews videos and he seems to make quality products. I live just 80 miles from the Paul Bunyon show, where it is held today. Hi Chris. I just subscribed to your channel after viewing one of your recent videos and you suggested I look at your archived videos and this is the first one I picked. I'm looking at an Eastonmade Axis diesel. I live about an hour away from the "factory" and Andrew has invited me up to have a look-see! Unfortunately, they are parting ways with Honda but they are developing a Kubota diesel version (Along with Briggs & Stratton gas). One tip I have for you is when you get a compact tractor (not if) get a bucket mounted clamp-on receiver to move your splitter around. Unbelievably easy to maneuver a shorter trailer with the front-mounted hitch. Back to the video...

Great suggestion, should tell Andrew, to tilt the table edges to 45 degree. As for the lubrication of the bed try ATF (automatic transmission fluid) it will clean and lubricate too. You can fill a small oil can and squirt ti toward the pusher to lubricate it too.

Hi Chris!!😀😀 The Ultra is a decent splitter. The only thing I really don't like about them is I feel that the pusher plate needs to be the same height as the wedge is. That way the blocks wouldn't flip backwards and would push it through. Andrew didn't like it to well when I criticized it. Keep a eye on the bolts that hold the push plate so they don't come loose like Joe's did. Keep up the good work buddy!!😀😀 Logger Al

So good to see that you're using a much faster splitter now. Most of the features that you listed aren't on the Ultra but are on the non-Ultra ones. It's ironic that the splitter named "ultra" is the bottom of the range one. All of Andrews other splitters have much bigger push plates, auto return, hydraulic wedge adjustment and hydraulic log lift. What you do get from the Ultra is great build quality, fast cycle time and a fair bit of oomph.

It has finally appeared! Nice review. Few things... 1) grease top and bottom of beams. And like joe learned, check and retorque fasteners. 2) yeah 90* table edge stiffeners do cause an issue once in awhile. I have same issue on mine. I built my table so the edge stiffeners can be removed. But I do believe that table is not wide enough especially when using the 4 way. With my table and log lift up I have over 16 sqft of flat. Makes big resplits easy. 3) you are a human pull back arm😆 I think a 12-22 with box wedge and auto cycle is in your future or the Axis?? 4) Have you tried joes idea of placing a garbage can or something of waist height stand next to your side of splitter where you can place big half/quarter while you break down other half/quarter? I think that might compensate for table space and a little easier handling/pulling back. 5) I thought maybe you were going to joes house with that wood...nope😆

Chris, you along with a few others have inspired me to start doing firewood! Besides the price, why the ultra over the axis? Also what’s your thoughts on bagging wood? Haven’t heard you talk about it yet. I’m starting small with a cheap splitter but I’m just thinking about how I want to scale up in the future. The convenience and time saved bagging and using a tractor with forks to move it around would take production through the roof.
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard 3 жыл бұрын
Good for you Tyler! I will do a video soon about the bag thing. For me, I would need 700-800 bags at $15 each so...over $12,000 Plus a elevator to load them $8,000 plus a tractor to move them $30,000 and load into a truck or trailer and then, how do you off load them a t the customers place?!?! That means three years of wood sales to break even.... so... now do you see? Start small and add stuff as you grow with cash, and you will do fine.

Bigger Easton splitters have a cradle that holds the log. So you don't need to keep your hands in harms way. Most manufactures won't put full auto cycle on splitters for liability reasons. I have a 12-22 eastonmade with full auto cycle and really like it.
@Tonnsfabrication
@Tonnsfabrication 3 жыл бұрын
If you want the cylinder to return on its own then you should have ordered an auto cycle valve instead of a 1 spool valve. You can convert it for around $425 or so? The auto cycle valve is about $350 and you'll need another hose and some random fittings, on top of rebuilding the mount for the valve.

Eastonmade splitter looks nice but very small push plate. If I was going to spend some money on a splitter I would go with a wolf ridge because they will split the big stuff without a problem and have a bigger push plate and easy change out plate the rounds you split the woodridge would split it with the four way wedge watch back 40.

Those are the 💣 BOMB!!!!! What price are they? I looked on the site but none have any pricing information. I'd love to have the auto load and conveyor , and a "Boy"' to run it for me. But the machine you have would be much more than enough. I have one from a box store that is nothing but welding rods holding welding rods. Seriously I've replaced the wear plates twice on it. In fact it's gotten so fatigued that the cylinder ripped at a factory weld and sprayed so hard it knocked the lense outa my glasses the other day. I'm sure it would have taken my eye out if not for that lense.

Now that machine would and could knock out mountains of split wood faster than two or three could drag to it. Just saying for a full timer that wouldn't be a terrible investment , the speed would free up time for delivering wood.

I just love my Eastonmade Ultra! But left to me, I found its weak spot. I can tell you from experience do NOT tow this wood splitter, as just the bouncing driving down the road will cause the motor mounting plate to bend down, leaving the motor slightly off level. I can say from experience that although the Ultra has really nice wheels on it, the unit must be trailed to wherever you are taking it to. Bill Rogers
