Yes, I believe the basket weave stitch makes this yarn so much easier to use once you get past the first row of working in the chain.

Bonnie, that is such a beautiful blanket. I love those colors. Never did the basket weave stitch before I know how to do front n back post double crochet. Since I have not used the pipsqueak yarn before I love the challenge. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I think the basket weave is so cute for a baby blanket. I’ve used 4 weight in the past. It’s weird from far away I can see the stitch definition, but up close it’s more difficult. Looks so squishy and drapes nicely. Thanks for sharing.

I’m a pretty new beginner. Started crocheting about a month ago and I was able to make this no problem! Used the same type of yarn and it came out beautiful! I did mark every 8th chain stitch in the first step with stitch markers because I didn’t want to miss one and it worked out great for me. After that step it was a breeze.

thanks for this free pattern. I used a different yarn and made it larger - James C. Brett Flutterby chunky yarn to be specific and it turned out lovely. I haven't crocheted in about 7 years but this was super easy to get started again and follow along :)

If you try to "feel your way" through the foundation chain, you may be ok Robin. I honestly could not see the chain holes but relied on my fingertips to tell me where to put the hook. Once past that row it becomes much, much easier!

Bonnie, this blanket is like eye candy. It is absolutely beautiful. I always dislike my first row, it always takes longer than the rest of the project and is somewhat difficult compared to the rest of it. Thanks for this beautiful tutorial. I truly enjoy your teaching method. 🥰🧶🐐🦙🐫🐑🧶🥰

Yes, exactly Theresa! I do believe that if you feel your way through the first row then you are home free as I tried to explain in the video. I would NEVER make an entire project with this yarn where you were dependent on finding the top loops of each stitch. That would be torture even to me! Ha ha! Front and back post stitches are so very easy with this and other similar yarns (Lion Brand's Homespun comes to mind).

@@BonnieBayCrochet Sorry to say it didn't work out with that yarn. It's way more difficult to work with than the yarn you're using. The basketweave pattern hardly showed up at all. I tried to frog it but it's too difficult to frog, so I just tossed it after about 6 rows.

I didn’t use the pipsqueak yarn I use the lion brand Terry Spohn which are pretty comparable and I haven’t had shade since I was in junior high and I’m in my late 50s now. I was able to use the Terry span to make a shell border on a baby blanket it was very easy to use. I started off by making several different swatches to get the feel for the yarn And that helped a great deal so if anybody out there is worried about crocheting with this yarn just practice with it first and I have no doubt you’ll be able to master there’s no time. That said I would just like to think Bonnie for her time and expertise on teaching us these amazing crochet projects. God bless everyone

I love this blanket!..A yarn that has the soft fuzzy but might be a little easier to see is the new Caron latte cakes..also self stripping yarn. I have not used it yet but it's almost a blend of yarns. Just a thought...

Perhaps you have something similar there? This also works up nicely with regular worsted/Aran weight yarn.

Bonnie, I love this blanket and the yarn you used. About the colors of the yarn. I went to order some and find that the Pipsqueak stripes comes in a variety of colors and I can't tell for sure which one you used for this blanket. It looks like it might be the birdsong or octopus but there are several that look they could possibly be it. Please clarify thank you

You can try if you like, but not sure how difficult it would be to feel your way for the first row. This will be covered up by the perimeter round anyway and may be less bulky with the standard starting chain. Just a suggestion!

You can add a multiple of 8 to the existing starting chain.

I was wondering if this yarn can be used for a four legged crochet dog sweater? My pattern calls for single crochet only.i do not like that stitch.i am trying to find twob stitches that will keep my little shih tzu warm,she has very short hair.I need a stitch that's light yet very pretty,for inside the house..and another stitch that's a bit warmer for outside.i seen at Michael's dog yarn looks quite warm and very soft.I also have been looking at so many beautiful stitches,can anyone tell me for example if I wanted to use this stitch on this blanket for my dog pajamas can that be done? And other stitches like jasmine stitch,etc.. And can I add increases on other stitches like this one,as the dog sweater calls for increases. Im sorry my comment is so long,I just really really need a couple better beautiful stitches that are good for inside and outside and will take increases..I am very curious on can you use any stitch for increasing and decreases.Thank you.

I just was at the Premier warehouse sale and got some Parfait Layers ... calls for a 6.5, but doesn't seem THAT bulky, can I use a 6 and it turn out even remotely like this? :)

You can try. Parfait Layers is a tad bulkier than what I used here though. I would recommend a different design for this yarn. I do have one here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ipNia5lm3sXImX0.html

I understand! If you can get past the first row, the rest becomes very easy using front and back post stitches. This pattern can also be worked using a smoother yarn.
