In this video, I show you an easy way to make a bending fork. A blacksmith bending fork can be used in the vice for bending metal. It can also be welding on a longer rod to make a bending wrench.

Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use. ~~ Emily Post (Thank You for your continued education, I love making tools)

i made one of these and just left it in the U shape but I used part of a truck coil spring. I don't even think I bothered hardening it or anything. Just shaped it and started using it. Thanks for the videos. Take care.

Thanks for the video. I was not looking forward to trying to forge out a bending fork in the traditional way. This demonstrated method, will for the mean time make my life easier. Thanks for your demonstration.

I learned something today, so it was a good day indeed. i have an adjustable bending jig, two pieces of angle iron, two pieces of round stock. round stock is welded to each piece of angle iron, in the middle close to the flat edge. put into vice and tighten to whatever width you need to bend. with your bending fork it will work even better. (A picture would explain it easier)

The place I learned the basics of blacksmithing had some bending forks with a bit of a different design. Instead if bending a piece of stock into a U they just welded 2 pieces of round stock to a piece of square stock so you'd get something like: |----------- | |----------- | | | | as an ascii art illustration. Of course this design isn't very efficient to make if you are going for something to mount in a hardy hole or vise, but I think it works pretty well for hand held ones.

Hi There Roy. When it comes to bending forks I cheat. I just find a piece of chain the size I want cut out one link, cut the U to length. Weld it to a piece of bar or pipe; heat and flatten the edges and there you go.regards from bigezi

M&S BLADES would it not flex then when you apply pressure to it?
@ChristCenteredIronworks
@ChristCenteredIronworks 6 жыл бұрын
Yes it would work great as long as the metal was hot enough
@msblades5382
@msblades5382 6 жыл бұрын
It may flex a bit but as Roy said if the steel was hot enough I don't think there would be an issue. Plus in order to make a better bending fork I would need to straiten some train coil spring for the better tool.
@msblades5382
@msblades5382 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Roy, I would only use it to straiten the spring steel for making a better bending fork from it. Prob. make a stronger tool over mild right? Thanks and God Bless
