A message to everyone watching this and struggling to play: Keep going! I first watched this about a year and half ago and I was baffled, wondering how I would ever manage this, but if you keep practising it will eventually come to you and you'll be able to fingerpick alternating bass patterns on any song and sound like a pro. This is a really excellent introduction to this, good luck!

This is a great message. It will sound completely off, and nothing like the video above. But over time, it will slowly involve into the sound of this lesson.

I went through all the lessons for this a few years ago and eventually managed to play it, I’m doing it again now as a refresher, it’s great if you want to get into finger style guitar. Like Eric says, take it slow. You’re a great teacher Eric, thank you.

I love how you're a finger picker who doesn't grow the nails long on your picking hand. I've been playing for a very long time and prefer to feel the strings on my fingertips, rather than using a nail. And it sounds so smooth!

Yea I'm the same! Finger nails can sound like uncontrollable picks sometimes. Skin on string, I just love the tone.

I play with no nails too...I really like the tone of paying with the nail but the feeling of the string piling against my nail is just really weird.

The deal is, you can't fingerpick fast if you use your fingertips, it's okay for blues, but not for classical guitar
@marcoferrao
@marcoferrao 7 жыл бұрын
I like the crispy sound the nails make. Coming from the bass guitar to the accoustic guitar my nails were always short, but after some classical guitar lessons I let them grow and fell in love with it. Also I agree with the guy who says you can´t play fast and also loose some precision with no nails. But like you said, it sounds smooth.

Eric I really love the way you teach. Too bad you weren't around when I first started. I never could get a real grasp on the Piedmont style when I tried to copy it by ear. And just because I can Travis pick, doesn't mean that I could get the intricate timing down. You saved me a lot of frustration. I thank you a lot and I'll definitely be in touch. Have a great holiday.

Great lesson - thanks! I'm a fairly experienced (classical) player just getting into this sort of style. This is the first video that I watched/played along to.
