I've made some using the plastic skulls as a mold. I made sure to purchase the concrete made for extreme heat. If I could post a photo on here I would. Thanks for the great videos

I've made a product called hypertufa (sp?). Basically add peat moss to the mortar It is very light and behaves like re-bar. Run a slip coat of thin mortar first for the details like Glance302 suggested.

I do concrete work for a living use cooking spray to release the molds

I have been using the baking spray from rhe Dollar Tree to lube the inside of my cement planters I'm making. Also there are much cheaper and easier mixes to use with less weight for hanging. The finish has a more organic look too. Hypertufa and papercrete are the two I use. You can use these mixes in molds and they can be carved and sanded or any other thing you may want to do to enhance the organic look. For hypertufa I use 1 part portland cement 1 part coconut coir or peat moss 1part perlite. Papercrete is slightly different using 3parts wet paper pulp/mush 1 part builders sand 1 part portland cement. I made head planters and potted them with monkey grass or fern for hair

Holosexual Hot I belong to a Facebook group called Papercrete Crafting Group. The instructions are in the group files and the biggest expense is a bag of Portland Cement , Sand or Perlite, and scrap paper. Cement is around $7 for a huge bag. (Enough to share with a friend.) For hypertufa and papercrete there are tons of tutorials on KZfaq

You could duck tape it.. use lots of duck tape. Just a small space to add cement. It will be harder to get skull out. You may trash the mold removing it.. place it somewhere where it will get air movement to cure. The full size dollar store skill use it with smaller pour hole..... I would think it would work. But getting it our may make you cuss... lol

I think so, just didn't want to mess up the concrete since I didn't know how it would react. With an oily concrete I would be hard to paint. Cheers, ET

Hey there, I'm not sure if that would work, I haven't tried that, but I wouldn't risk my cake mold. Also, I'm not sure what chemicals milk jug plastic would release if you heat it up. I'd definitely use something more disposable that won't be used around food. Does that make sense? Cheers, ET

I think people who do sculpting use a type of liquid rubber when they want to make a reproduction ... Its been a long long time since I made one of those rubber molds ( like over 20 years) ... So I'm not sure if its still sold anywhere or if there are better products out there .. Years ago in high school art class we were doing mold making and I made a "death mask " and I had to make " copies " of it .. I took the original ,coated it with layers of some sort of liquid rubber .. When it was dry we had to peel this rubber mold off ..coat the inside with grease so nothing would stick and then poured plaster into it ,let it dry then popped it out and made more. ... I probably made 20 of them ... Ask around at an art supply place or somewhere with sculpting supplies ..wish I could be nore helpful with what the product actually was .. Ed maybe you could use the liquid rubber stuff to make a skull mold .. I don't see why it wouldn't work with concrete ...

Roxanne Dillie maybe ask around at an artists supply place for a product like a liquid rubber ... Years ago I made a mask and used some sort of liquid rubber ...dried and was flexible which made it easier to get the plaster mask out afterward ... Sorry I cannot remember the name of the product ... Its been years since I've used it ..

Hi there, I used regular cement (it's mixed with sand). They sell 10 lb bags at home improvement stores. But, you can use any kind really. The one with gravel won't be so smooth though. Cheers, ET

Hi there, I asked for regular cement plus sand mix, for laying rocks or brick. But most mortar mixes would work. Use high temp concrete )for fireplaces) if you want to use these skulls for a fire pit. Cheers, ET

Oh thank you, I should have clarified that I would be using this for a gas fire pit (they would stay in the fire pit for an extended period of time, with varying temperatures). Do you know what the high temperature concrete is called? I was thinking of stopping at Home Depot to see what they recommended. Also found Rutland Castable Refractory Cement that sounds like the right stuff. Thoughts?

I'm sure the skulls can be corpsed, just spray them with polyurethane after they're done and that should hold outside for a while. You may need to redo the corpsing after a while. Cheers, ET
