The average homeowner does not have those tools, or saw for all the cuts. She didn't show the tools outside the house (usually) setup, where all the cuts are being made. There was a cabinet? carpenter there, he was visible for a few seconds, showing that this is usually a two person job, or at least a helper, at various times.

I love this! It looks great and it’s very close to what I’m trying to do except I’m going to be adding two 15 x 30 wall cabinets on the opposite side of the island. My question to you is did you have to anchor these cabinets to the tiled floor? If you did Can you please let me know how you did it? Thanks

Great idea. When we did the kitchen, I went entirely with base cabinets. I'm less than 5'tall. Big box, unpainted. I now have 22 drawers. Lol If it doesn't fit in what I have, I don't need it. Painted them safe green with dark countertops. Black hardware from Amazon.

I know it’s a year later but my husband added 2 x 12 boards to the bottom of drawer cabinets to make my new countertops taller. It’s almost identical to her island. I believe Ethan Allen has a video showing how to raise the height for stock cabinets.

FYI, i believe the NEC requires you to have at least 1 outlet in there, so if you go to sell the place you may need to install one

Just curious, about how much did this cost? And did you run electricity to it? If you didn’t, do you just use extensions cords for electrical appliances that you use at your island, like hand mixers, food processor, blenders etc.? If that is what you do, does it work out all right?

This is exactly what I have been wanting to do with my kitchen but didn't know how to cover unfinished sides of the cabinets, I didn't want drywall. There's plenty of space and the cabinets in the kitchen are simple white Shaker cabinets, so it will be easy to find similar ones. I want to replace the countertops, but I don't know what is best. I hate the old, dull soapstone ones that I have.

Any big box store. A hint - if the cabinets have a face frame, then use a 1/2 spacer between the cabinets at the back end to match. That makes sure they are kept square to each other. She didn't do this, but it would make it easier to space them properly.

So I installed a free floating cabinet in my kitchen with a granite countertop and I read it shouldn’t go anywhere but once the cabinet was placed on top I can hear it rattling when you walk. Any way to fix this issue now the countertop is installed ?

With that large piece of Quartz countertop I think it's not moving! It's Florida, maybe in California I would worry because of earthquakes.

@@chaneltyler It should be secured. It is amazing how easily heavy objects will slide around when you lean on them. Especially a long length like that. Lean against one corner and it will spin with very little effort. Fact!

@@sharon94503 long ways from 300 pounds. Unless filled with cans and cookery. Even then, things slide EASILY on level floors. One spot raised on the floor and it will spin.

It is a quartz counter top. They just rest it on top and use a bit of silicone to 'glue' it down around the perimeter of the island. They don't even need to support the overhang when it is under 10 inches like that - although I would. Look up 'hidden island supports' for some great support ideas.

If it is actually 15", then there should be supports. Supposedly up to 10" overhang on 1.5" thick quartz does not need support. Look up 'hidden island support' for great supports.
