As a young couple are doing the right thing by building your home without trying to incur a lot of debt. If you have to takeoff your comments just for your mental health, go ahead and do so. They were always going to have those negative people don’t let them get you down. If I had to do it again, I will definitely start the way you guys are starting your life out as a married couple. So I could travel the world and retire early. You know what your goal is don’t let any naysayers deter you from it because of their negativity and nastiness. I pray that the Lord keep you always ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Cody , they make outlet extenders to bring them even with your wood--they are plastic rectangles of different thicknesses -they really work and are not expensive either !! Check them out !! That accent wall looks great !!

You two remind this ole 66 year old of me and the wife of 41 years, what we have gone through with making our Trailer into a house. All done by myself and wife and some friends. Worked on it for years and still not done. But, a hell of a lot of memories. Love watching you guy's.

Hey guys, the wall is looking good. Just for clarification, technically speaking, what you are putting up is actually tongue and groove rather than shiplap. Shiplap has a rabbet facing out on one edge and the reverse on the opposite edge. With shiplap the board above overlaps the board below, hence the suffix "lap", rather than slipping into each other as with T&G. Either way it's looking great and you are learning something new which is the main thing.

You did what I have done before. You forgot to account for the tongue when you measured for the outlet hole. I hate when that happens and you have to waste a board. Great job and love keeping up you guys progress. Keep it up...

Love the way you guys do not sugar coat. You show that the work you are doing can be tedious and time consuming. I also love that you are vulnerable to show how you work through things and that not all works out the first time. The end result is so worth it. I also love how you both work so well together. I suggest you use your router with a flush trim bit to trim the ship lap at the top of your doors flush with the door jamb.

Hi Cody and Summer, You guys are a SUPER couple doing a GREAT job on your home at your pace and on your budget, and to HECK with all the nay sayers that think they know how you should better spend your time and money. Just keep up the good work. I don't usually comment because, I figure it's way too late to comment, as the video I'm watching now, the work was done 10 days previously, so how could commenting help any?? What I can suggest watching this video, Mr. Cody, is to invest in a new saw blade for you miter saw. Try the "CMT" Orange Tools brand, I've had good success with their blades over the years!!. I really like how the wall turned out. I was thinking you could take a router and bevel the edges around the door way to get rid of the hard edge.

Cody and Summer, the wood wall is a perfect "accent wall" that you were looking for IMO. Home Depot will have electric box extenders where the boxes are in the store. They will do the trick for you and are fairly inexpensive. Overall it's all coming together in that room very well and the accent wall is serving a dual purpose of accent and pulling all the elements together. Visually, it is very pleasing. I'm going to scream if you paint over that beautiful wood just put clear coat of sealer on it and call it a day. Wish you would had done that to the other three walls .But it's your house do what you like with it your the ones going have live with it . Great job has always

Great job young man. Looks good. Just to give you some help, when you do another wall start at the flour and go up. When installing toung and Grove nails go into the toung that help hid the nails. Still you are doing great

Looks good. Arlington BE1 Box extenders for your electrical outlet. Technically thats a violation. But we see it all the time. Use the box extenders, they work great

Normally, for that type of wall you should do from bottom to top so you can't see nails but great job overall!

If you get the extra wood at another store, please take a scrap piece with you from this supply. Grooves and thickness may not be the same. Cheers all.
