This drill is to show a way you can keep the takeaway in a one piece motion. There are several ways you can do this, but I like the alignment stick because it provides immediate feedback if you get disconnected in your golf swing. When I say disconnected, I am speaking about the arms leaving your body and not being in sync. Another way you know if you are disconnected is if there is a space between your left arm and chest on the way back.
The drill is simple, just place the alignment stick under your armpits and then setup to the ball as you normally do. You will just brace your upper arms against the alignment stick and swing back. You will feel more of a one-piece takeaway and immediately feel if your arms get disconnected. Just do half swings with it. Also, you can half swing through the ball and feel what the connection feels like. It will really ingrain some good habits for your normal swing.
