In this video, I cover a simple technique you can use on your chip and pitch shots. I am chipping in Bermudagrass rough so it is challenging to get a clean lie. The technique I use allows for consistent motion that catches the ball clean.
The technique I use is simple, start with a sound set-up:
1. My feet, hips, and shoulders are pretty square to the target, if anything, a little open.
2. I have my weight on my left side/front leg at a about 60% to 40% on my back foot.
3. I let the natural bounce of the wedge hit the shot by having the shaft the club vertical with my hands just slightly ahead of the ball at address.
4. The ball position is just inside my front foot and ahead of center just like I have for putts. This allows for a little elevation on the chip without having to manipulate the club (if I wanted the ball to run out more and didn't need to fly as far to the green, I would move the ball position back a little in my stance toward my back foot).
5. From there, I have a simple swing back using my chest and arms together (staying connected) while keeping the club head in front of me (not letting the clubhead get to far inside my hands).
6. I then swing through the shot which happens naturally because of my set-up and swing motion and simply hold all of my set up angles as I turn through.
It's that simple and that is why my contact was good on these shots despite the challenging lies.
