The Asus Vivobook 14 has a 2nd SO-DIMM slot, pop a sub-$20 stick of 8GB DDR4-3200mhz and boom, instant dual channel 16gb. Price has even been bouncing down to $229 as of late as well. Great buy for a general purpose laptop.

I wish budget laptops would improve the screens and memory capacity. A lot of them even in the $500 range still have 250 nit, bad color gamut/accuracy. That and the 8GB of soldered memory in a lot of them too bleh. I grabbed a refurb i7 12700H, 3050 Legion 5 pro for $575 for my mother in her 60s just because the screen alone is noticeably better than most laptops in that price range and came with 16GB of RAM. Got to love a lady in her 60s using a 14 core/20 thread CPU just to play Facebook games and browse the web 🤣

How much performance would I be missing out on if I choose a ryzen 8845hs instead of a i7 14700hx like in terms of benchmark scores I see a result but how would these score difference translate into real world performance??

You'll find more single-task performance with the Intel and more multi-task performance out of the Ryzen.

@@BenGKaiser I wanted to edit vedios and play games I saw ryzen hitting 16000 17000 in cinebench and intel is getting 23000 scores so just wanted to knw how this gap really plays out in real life performance

honestly both will do very well paired with an RTX 4070 or RTX 4060 and 32GB RAM.

Should you buy a macbook pro m3 pro or buy a macbook air m2 with ipad pro m4 as a fresher coding student who want to do ai & ml.

I would choose M3 Pro as it will have the performance you need to run multiple programs simultaneously without bottleneck performance issues.

You will be doing ML, AI stuffs in colab most of the time. Your undergrad ML classes won’t tax your system anyway. If you can get more RAM with M1 pro, get that. Otherwise, get the one where you can afford most RAM. Compute won’t be an issue.
