Easy! How to Measure for Pushrod Length!

in this "how to" video that is part of the engine building series we are doing for Project Fast Times, that 388" small Block Chevy stroker going in my friend Todd's 1980 Chevy Camaro Z/28, we show you two east methods to measure for pushrod length. One method is using two pushrod length checker tools and the other method is measuring off your rocker arm. Please see the links below for the products I used. This a simple and straightforward "DIY" process anyone can do with a little focus and time.

why would you not add length for preload you may have to add 35 to 45 thou to regain the correct length I'm new at this and am curious

Preload is adjusted when you do your rocker arms

If you’re gonna buy a push rod that’s “close enough” then why use calipers? Just use any measuring tool

Do you use the mid lift method for setting up the geometry at all? Or what do you think is the most important? Thx

That’s not a bad method either. I personally prefer this one, it’s how I was taught by a guy who has been doing this for decades.

I believe you are correct if your using the blue push rod checker tool. You need to find the 90 degree measurement from the center line of the trunion to the top of the valve retainer at mid lift. If you don't your push rods will be too long.
