I gotta put two of those in on Tuesday. I normally hate Genies and I tried to talk my customer out of buying them, but he didn't listen. I've installed maybe 50 of them in my life. I do this for a living. And I've never liked them. I always have to keep referring to the assembly instructions. But your video made it simpler for me to understand. Thank you.

The assembly of the unit is by far the easiest part of the process. Not sure why you glossed over what I found to be the most difficult and time consuming part which is hanging the unit? That is where I could have used some professional tips. Setting up the "Aladdin Connect" is not as straight forward either as it could be. It doesn't seem to like the latest router protocols like 802.2 AC and 5 Ghz, it took several attempts for the phone app to find the unit. All in all it is not too difficult of an install, it took me about four hours to do with the help of a friend to hang the unit. But I was replacing an existing opener so I could use the existing wiring and hangers which saved a lot of time. If you are doing this from scratch you probably want to add at least a couple more hours of work time. I don't what to seem ungrateful, thanks for taking the time to do this video!

Excellent video. Watching this to recap what I've done so far installing my opener. During the install, the door accidentally got away from me......and the cables came unwound. I tried rewinding them....and it ended up being a nightmare, lol. SO, I'm calling the garage door people- I planned on having the door serviced anyway- have the tension adjusted, etc. Luckily I'll be able to re-use the wall control wiring, but the lift I took out only had sensor wiring going to one side of the door- so I'll have to do some snaking to get the wires where I want them to go behind the drywall.....not looking forward to that part.

Thank you good video. Saw that the turnbuckle was turned round but doesn't look like it matters? Also front stopper bolt missing behind pulley at that hole in rail does that matter ? @garagedoorgenius
@garagedoorgenius 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the turnbuckle doesn't matter. It's the same either way. Stop bolt would be a good idea. Just in case, if the limit passes the point it's supposed to stop. That way the trolley doesn't slam into the plastic pulley. I actually ended up putting the stop bolt on. Just forgot to during filming.

What they call 1.25hp is less than the old 1/2hp motors of the past. If your door is heavy when hand lifting with operator bypasses perhaps the torsion spring needs tightening. Probably sometime left to a pro unless you are a seasoned do it yourselfer and strong

@garagedoorgenius
@garagedoorgenius 3 жыл бұрын
The header bracket (bracket that mounts to the wall), I would mount it somewhere three to five inches above the spring bracket. Line it up right in the middle of the door. Screw it into the wall. You may have a solid header. If the lab screws go in with no troubles and feels like you're grabbing wood then you're good to go. if it feels like you just went through drywall and nothing back behind there, then do like I do in the video and span the pieces of punch to angle horizontally because there are studs in that header somewhere. Typically you can tap on the header with a hammer or your knuckles to hear where the stud is at. As you're tapping it will sound hollow until you start moving left or right then you will hear it sound a little more solid. Right there is where I stud would be located. And then the door bracket just screw it underneath the top strut reinforcement bar. I hope that makes sense! 💯🙂

Ms J use the wire Genie sends or tap into your existing wall button wire. Wall button has 2 terminals (screws). 1 wire goes to the B/W terminal and the other wire goes to the W terminal. Then run the wire to the opener and plug them into the slots on the opener. If it's a brand new install, refer to the section where it shows you the wall button set up.

I just replaced mine because it was pretty loud. The problem I'm having now is there are 3 wires coming out the ceiling, I get they are the wall & 2 sensors. But there are 4 wires in each of the 3. 2 white then blue then an orange one. The blue & the orange are twisted together so I'm assuming they go together. Nothing is working. The light is on at the wall mount control & a red light is constantly flashing on the door sensor & the other one is a constant green light. Where do. All these wires go???
@garagedoorgenius
@garagedoorgenius 4 жыл бұрын
There could be 10 different colors coming out of each wire, just make sure you use the same color coming out of the ceiling. I like to use blue. No reason, just always use blue. There will be a solid blue and a blue with white. So for instance the wall control. I would hook the blue to the red terminal and blue/white on the white terminal on the back of the wall control. Then from the ceiling, take the 3 wires, strip them all down. Separate the blue and blue/white from the rest of the wires. Strip those two wires. Then, although you don't know which one the wall button is, choose one and hook it up to the wall control terminal until you find the wire that turns the wall control on red. Now you know the other two wires are sensor wires. Twist the solid blues together and then the blue/whites. Plug them into the sensor terminal. DONE! I would check and make sure you put the wires in the correct terminals. Also, make sure those sensors are pointing at each other and not all cockeyed. Hope this helps.
