Manually raise the door waist high and let go. Does it stay or fall to the floor? If it falls to the floor you need more spring tension. That's why the cables are slacking.

To save everyone the time i spent looking for this part. You can not buy it. they only sell the complete motor at almost the cost of a new opener. about $175.00 #37030A.S BUT it is discontinued.along with its replacement 36447A.S Also discontinued. Ive been searching the country for someone that might have an old one in stock just to prevent a complete reinstall of a new one. Alibaba has a replacement for $60.00 but you will wait months to get it and it probably will fail in a month.. Sorry for the bad news but this 15 yr old opener is also a throw away it seems. Unbelieveable that a $15 Nylon gear causes you to throw away a completely installed unit. This kind of stuff speaks volumes about the company!!!
@garagedoorgenius3 күн бұрын
Yeah, it's a discontinued opener. New models come out all the time and older models get phased out. Yeah it sucks a nylon gear is the only thing keeping this machine from running. All garage door manufacturers have the same nylon gears.

If you find that when you wrap the cable, it is about 4" too short, and if you unwrap one turn of the cable, it is then about 8 inches too long, and you're starting to think about trying to adjust the spool, DON'T! When the door is at the top of it's run (as it is the way this guy had you lock it up with with vice grips), there is great adjustability in its position relative to the cable. Just take off the vice grips and move the door with your hand (I did this while the cable had been 4 inches too short) until the peg meets the end of the cable. Then attach it. This method of his works great! He really only forgot to mention this last point that I just added. (It would help to have a second person there when you do this, as I almost lost everything as the door started to come down too far..)
@garagedoorgenius4 күн бұрын
This guy is right as far as don't loosen the spool. That causes loose cables. However, use vise grips. They help keep the bottom panel out of your way. That way you don't need to use a friend or one hand.

Hey, garage door genius you need to add springs to your garage door. If it rolls up in your door comes falling down it’s probably gonna be your fault because you didn’t add springs. Do you need to call a garage door expert? Where are you springs you need garage door springs Guys if you’re out there with no springs on a garage door or a torsion bar on it you need to go go get a new torsion bar or springs. Your springs are also gonna be intentions when you get them new because you need to do 30 quarter turns and then a quarter half turn on the last turn same one for the other one. I’m sorry 30 quarter turns? yes 30 or you could just call an expert thank you just trying to be me trying to give you facts and I hope you have a great rest your day. Thanks for liking this comment.

@Franklin-we1iw4 күн бұрын
If both of your LED lights on the top, your motor are both red that means you need to reprogram and try again with the programming system. You also need to check your sensors. Those things can be hard to track but it’s really easy if a red light is blinking on the other side and a green light is solid on the other side and in that means that if you try to open or close the garage door it’ll go slightly down and it’ll come back up and it the light will start blinking if you have a LiftMaster, a chamberlain so if you have those type of openers those lights for blank, just me trying to help garage door expert

This definitely saved the day! By the way how do you know if you added too much tension? After doing this the door opens like before, but now it makes a cracking noise.
@garagedoorgenius4 күн бұрын
If you add too much tension then the door will fly upwards by itself. You want it to go up nice and easy. Cracking may be coming from where the sections meet. Loosen the hinge screws and then tighten them back up.

Weeeellll .. it's 2024 and I just had to replace both of them. One became too sensitive, would reverse at a foot down or just before the floor. No adjustment of spring tension would fix. The other ... well ... I broke. First I closed it on an open SUV lift gate. Twice. :-( The result was the cables wrapped on top of, not under, the cable guides. And fixing that blew an internal fuse. Replaced the fuse and just to sure, checked cable tension; it was a bit off between the two sides. Ok, let's fix that. Futzed with the tension screw, but forgot to *unlock* the torque bar. Bottom line: stripped the worm gear, it's only plastic after all. Result: now opener 2 is broken too. OK, after 20 years, it's time to replace them. Did that (Precision Garage Door) - excellent service but not cheap. Wayne-Dalton iDrives: RIP

@@garagedoorgenius Whatever their price, I can't fault Precision for their service. Called on the Sunday before Memorial Day, arrived that day at 4pm for the "repair." As stated above, it was a complete replacement of everything except the actual doors and tracks. The original iDrivess lasted 20 years. Richard offered to do it right that day even though it may take to 10pm to do both. No extra cost. :-) He didn't finish but was back on Tuesday morning, apparently the boss didn't want to pay him for holiday. As the expression goes, "You get what you pay for."

Hello sir! Is the garage door up or down currently?
Mine did the same thing, tried your recommended fix, lubed the side rails, lubed the screw, checked the sensors and nothing. Just an FYI for anyone hitting a dead end…I finally took a rag wiped the screw track clean, scraped the old lube gunk and dirt inside the screw track with flat head screw driver wrapped with a rag (mine was black and thick), shot the track with fresh lube, lubed the panel hinges, and finally lubed up the springs (very dry) and like all I.T. trouble shooting, disconnected the power source and reconnected it. Presto, she opened!!!! The final adjustment was lowering the open force, and incriminating the force until it opened a few times. I honestly don’t know which step did it, but something got it working. Good luck people.
@carlosrjr19735 күн бұрын
Mine is doing the opposite. It goes up part way and stops. The up force is maxed, the red indicator is not flashing (only when I cover it). The rails are lubed as well. What I did notice on the unit is that the green status light isn’t on only when it moves it flashes then stops flashing. Not really sure about that light. Advice is welcomed. 🤷🏽♂️

Mine failed in the up position. So I’m confused on why it must be set to down position
@garagedoorgenius7 күн бұрын
Because when it's set to the down position down is down. Meaning it is on the concrete. If you try setting it in the up position you might get it close but you won't get it exact. Then you have to mess with the setting the limits. Which isn't a big deal, but if you do it with the door down most of the time you don't have to mess with fine tuning the limits.

Hi, It's Memorial Day 2024. My husband and I both veterans. Our garage door just got completely off track, and glass broke everything! Ok, interesting fact: Around this same time last year, I ran into the door because, being an OEF/OIF combat veteran, I was triggered by two unsettling occurrences involving family members. A year later, this weekend, same family members. Aside from the dynamics, Question: When I ran into the door last year a friend of ours, who has a garage door service came, got out most of the dents, and put a bracket/brace across it. Brace seems heavy. Yet it's worked fine over the past year. Do you think it falling down a year later has anything to do with the occurrence of running into it last year?
@garagedoorgenius8 күн бұрын
Thank you and your husband for your service 🙏🏼. My sister is married to an outstanding retired Marine. The sacrifice our service members have given. I want to say thank you. I really hope you resolve your family issues. It's not fun to be triggered by certain things. So may the best be with you on that front. It sounds like your friend fixed the garage door like I would have. Putting a brace across the door to reinforce. It is about all you can do. Now. Why it fell out of track now is a mystery . It could be a couple different things. Can you describe exactly how it fell? Was it acting weird or did it pull from out of the ceiling ?

What I’m a little confused about is, y did u go back into the garage and program it directly from the actual ceiling-mounted opener itself, if u got the Subi’s opener to pair from the handheld remote the 1st time? B/c at first I assumed you were just showing a different way but then I rewatched and heard u say “..next step…” On my old school Craftsman garage door opener it worked directly from the remote. And No… I’m not trying to imply Craftsman is better than your Chamberlain or anything like that.
@garagedoorgenius8 күн бұрын
Some Subis you need to train the remote to the HomeLink, and then activate the LEARN button on the opener. Chamberlain and Craftsman are the same. Craftsman just paid a lot of money to have their name on the side of a Chamberlain machine.

@@garagedoorgenius I guess it’s an extra security feature, and maybe my garage opener has it but I was able to get away w/ not activating the “Learn” button b/c I manually cleared only the MirrorLink- not both. So therefore, the wall mounted garage opener still remembered my Forester.
