Let’s face it, sometimes life stinks. But fear not! With only 3 ingredients you can whip up an easy, non-toxic, all natural DIY “Poo-Pourri” and all purpose stinky spray!
Ingredients and Basic Ratio:
- 1 part witch hazel*
- 2 parts distilled water (OR water boiled for 5 minutes and then cooled)
- 1-2% dilution** of essential oils of your choice
- A small glass spray bottle
*Rubbing alcohol or vodka can be used in place of witch hazel.
**Here's a handy chart to help you figure out your dilution: www.nowfoods.c...
Lemon-Lavender Stinky Spray
- 2-3 Tablespoons of witch hazel
- about 1/3 cup distilled water OR boiled and cooled water
- 15 drops lavender essential oil
- 15 drops lemon essential oil
- 4 oz glass spray bottle
Instructions
1. Fill spray bottle ⅓ of the way full with witch hazel, about 2-3 Tablespoons.
2. Add 30-40 drops of essential oils of your choice.
3. Fill to the top with distilled water OR water that has been boiled for 5 minutes and cooled.
4. Give it a little shake and you’re good to “go”.
To use as a toilet spray aka DIY “Poo-pourri” aka homemade “Poop Ninja”:
Spritz 4-5 times directly onto the surface of the toilet water BEFORE going to the bathroom. For best results, shake before use.
To use as a room or fabric spray:
Spritz as needed, anywhere odors linger.

I made this Yesterday to refill my VIPoo spray bottle (which is £5 for a tiny 55ml bottle in the shops), and it works brilliant, I used Vodka and Lavender and lemongrass essential oils, and water I boiled for 5 minutes, Thank you for your quick and fun video! I am converted !!

Hey :) I just wanted to add a few tips. When making EO sprays it's always best to use Everclear 190 or perfumers alcohol both work equally well. Anything less will not fully solubilize (blend) the EO's into the water, the EO's will eventually sit at the top. A tbsp. would be a good amount to add to the water. It's also good to add vegetable glycerin- that along with the ethanol helps the scent last longer. It's especially helpful in poo-pourri because it helps thicken the oil barrier that holds the smells in. One or two tsp. is all that's needed of it. If you want to snazz it up even more you can add a few drops of food coloring to it. That will help you see that you sprayed enough to make that barrier you want. Though if you do that it would obviously only be used as poo-pourri.

where does one get perfumers alcohol and vegetable glycerin?
@homoerotic85
@homoerotic85 2 жыл бұрын
@@angieagentlesoul If your making it for personal use or as presents I would just use Everclear 190 because it works just as well as perfumers alcohol. Your just not suppose to sale it as it doesn't have bitterent in it. Vegetable glycerin can be found at health food stores or pharmacies they normally have organic versions. If you don't care that it's not organic you can buy it at Walmart. It's in the same isle as hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol and band aids, some times it's near bath salts isle. It can be found at a lot of places.

Just curious…I bought another brand of “before you go spray” that didn’t work as well as the original (but I loved the apothecary like bottle) and it had an ingredient to help the oil mix with the water. That sounds great for a room spray but I thought it may be the reason the other brand didn’t perform as well. Don’t you want the oil to separate so it sits on top? I know that means you have to shake it first but if the ingredient makes the EO soluable in water, then won’t it just mix in with the toilet water instead of forming an oil film in top? I’m not correcting you…I’m actually curious and you seem well informed. I added a lot of my own EO that bottle that wasn’t working as well and it made a big difference… I assumed it was because I put enough EO to overpower the ingredient that made it soluble in water, but it still didn’t work as well as the original. Do you have any thoughts on needing to keep the EO insoluable for it to work as a toilet spray only? But I really like your recommendation on adding an ingredient to make the scent last. Probably unneeded if only used for toilet spray but that would be a great additive if you wanted your toilet spray to double as a room spray also.

I like any combos with eucalyptus in my bathroom for the spa feel and it goes well with lavender and any citrus like bergamot. My favorite PooPourri scent is the Fresh Sea Salt which is Sea Salt, Bergamot and Eucaplytus. I’ve made a diy replacing the Sea Salt with lavender and I loved it, but I’d like to use the Sea Salt in it too. There’s no such thing as a natural sea salt EO right, so does anyone know how you would get that scent to use in EO combos?

 @TheCrunchyGinger I'm one of those girls who looooooooooooooooooooooooooooves to make stuff at home! My American mom says most air fresheners like Airwick plugins give her a headache. Strange they don't seem to do that to me! I'd love to try making this spray one day, as my provider has health issues, and if she ever has to make a poo in my bathroom, I wanna make sure it smells clean, as the smell of a poo is usually pretty rotten! I don't have distilled water, but I do have filtered water, made with regular tap water in a Brita pitcher. Would that work? I also have rubbing alcohol on hand as well. One of my favorite scents is ... wait for it ... baby powder!

I love lavender and I just recently got some lemon oil. I've always mixed lavender with tea tree or rosemary but I'm going to give this a try. You may want to try eucalyptus oil for something different. There's a product on the market where you drop a few drops into the bowl beforehand and it just uses eucalyptus oil. Actually I thought it had to be eucalyptus for its antibacterial properties. I'll probably try both to compare. Thanks so much for sharing this. Just one question - was that a 2oz or 4oz bottle you used please? thx :)

Is the alcohol just the normal one you buy at pharmacy? (If it's not I'll probably try vodka) And the esencial oils are the ones that is safe for body use? Because I"ve seen cheaper versions for oil burners. Thank you!
@TheCrunchyGinger
@TheCrunchyGinger 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Just rubbing alcohol from the pharmacy. But vodka will also work. I would always recommend higher quality essential oils, even though this isn’t really for spraying on the skin. Then you know there’s nothing creepy in there and they’re more versatile for all your diy products and diffusing, etc!

Ok......little confused 😕 do u use all vegetable glycerin or 2 T witch hazel with 1 T vegetable glycerin?
@TheCrunchyGinger
@TheCrunchyGinger 2 жыл бұрын
In a 4 ounce bottle, I use 2-3 Tablespoons of witch Hazel or alcohol and about 1/3 cup of distilled water. (Plus 30-40 drops of essential oil). Vegetable glycerin can be added to help bind the water and oil so you don’t have to shake it up so much. I find that the spray works just fine for me without it, so I usually omit it.

Hey, Great Video. After formulating the spray, how long will it last ?
@TheCrunchyGinger
@TheCrunchyGinger 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I hesitate to give an exact shelf life since it will depend on what exactly you use to make it. The higher the percentage of alcohol, the longer it will last. So using say a 90% alcohol will give you a longer shelf life than witch hazel, for example. But in general, I like to make a small bottle and use mine within a month or so.

I can’t speak to exactly what is in the product since I can only see the same info you can see. On their website, Poo Pourri says their product is alcohol free but contains “PROPRIETARY BLEND OF ESSENTIAL OILS AND SURFACTANT.” In this recipe, the alcohol is acting as a “surfactant” to help the essential oils and water mix together better. So, they are using some other undisclosed ingredient to get the oils and water to mix. I think it comes in a plastic bottle. I hope that helps!
