Some of the the acrylic pour techniques can be a little daunting. In this video we walk you through step by step for an easy open cup pour tutorial for beginners.
For this method we want paint that is on the thin side so it can interact with and create more cells. I used a mixture of 2 part Floetrol, 1 parts paint, and 1 part water (Thank you to Sandra Barnes for correcting me on this). The water was added to match consistency so start out with less and add more until you get the right thin consistency.

Thank you for these basic instructions. I watch them all and that’s what I try next. I don’t get cells, ever ! Seriously I don’t know why. I stopped using silicone because what is available here 🇨🇦 is not pure silicone so I’m a little gunshy about ordering any on line. I have a row of silicone droppers in my paint supply area. 😑

Swipe. With Floetrol. White over almost any color. White barely thinner than the other paints. That should give you cells and lacing every time.

@@LeftBrainedArtist this is true, I’ve done that but I over worked them trying to get the swipes all straight . Will more floetrol give me cells in other types of paintings? The paintings are quite pretty, but no cells. I have worked at walking away after some torching but no luck. And those pearls that can be so pretty if they don’t take over. What’s up with the pearls ? I just don’t get it. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you Yris. I think I like the next one I did with the black background better but you just can't beat open cup cells.

Hi David and Thank so much. I'm new to all this also and right now I'm trying to make the acrylic skins for jewelry making. You have given me some great information and techniques and I appreciate it. Subscribed and looking forward to more from you in the future.

I haven't done a lot but I did make a few cabochon necklaces this last week with my daughter. So fun. Good luck Linda.

If i do open cups i like to let them travel across the canvas, lets me move the effects where i want nd i can see if i need to add more or not. Dope cells G

Yeah, I need to tilt my canvas ever so slightly so as I pour paint in it moves down the canvas instead of just in to the center. Great tip Dylan.

Thanks! You make this look easy. I’m improving thanks to you and I’m working on getting more of the things I need. I’m just working with glue, paint and water at the moment.

That is my go to. Probably 2/3 of my paintings are still with glue.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Did my first open cup pour and it went terribly. Decided to watch your video as I was doing my second pour, pausing it at times and my end result was exactly what I had hoped for! Thanks a lot for this kind of content.

Nice cells! Even though you weren't exactly going for them they came out great. I"ve always had trouble getting cells like that on purpose.
