I'm a chef and my advice is to skewer the dogs after crosshatching them, while they're cold. Also....season your rice with mirin and a little sugar instead of oil. The oil causes the rice to be less sticky.
@Mugsi
@Mugsi 2 жыл бұрын
Ooooh, that's true about not using oil to season the rice. I'm surprised that wasn't my first thought. Hmm, that said, sesame oil does have a nice flavour. Perhaps that could be added to the glaze, instead?

since the form of this is so similar to a sushi roll, it makes me wonder if it would be good if you grilled a sushi roll that had cooked fish in it, like shrimp tempura or eel or crab or something. i don’t imagine it could be bad, the crispy rice texture would be nice i bet

These look delicious. I love hotdog maki, which are pretty similar. I expect the toasted rice exterior really kicks it up a notch. On the theme of American grill foods turned into maki, I came up with a recipe for a cheeseburger maki that is inspired by McDonald's burgers. Make a sausage shaped tube of ground beef of the right length to span a piece of nori and cook it through, salting generously as it cooks. Finely chop some onions. Slice some dill pickles into long thin batons. When you make the roll you can use regular or unseasoned rice, I prefer seasoned rice but sometimes I get lazy. The sweetness of the rice fills the role of the sweet buns McDonald's uses. Make a sushi roll in pretty much the normal way, but on each roll add a bead of ketchup and American yellow mustard (such as French's). Then add a small sprinkling of onion, strips of pickle, and two pieces of American cheese. Finally add the burger and roll. Slice it up and serve.

Emmy - Love your videos! Sorry, that the snow seems to have you a little down. When I was a kid my obachan would used to make something similar but with nori on the outside and without the cheese. But I like in this recipe how the nori is used to hold the melted cheese in the center. To keep it from falling apart you can use a bamboo sushi mat or a sushi mold to get a tighter package.

You should try bacon cheese dogs... Cut a slit in a hot dog, making it look like a meaty mini version of a hot dog bun. Stuff the slit with thin slivers if American cheese. (Or you could use Oscar Mayer cheese dogs.) Wrap a slice of bacon around the dog, holding it in place with toothpicks. Bake until the bacon reaches the desired level of "doneness." Remove the toothpicks and enjoy.
