PRO TIP: You can make as many Tiles or Windows as you'd like. The default sliders to up to a 5 x 5 grid, but you can just click where the number of rows and columns appears in the inspector and enter any number you want. I did 50 x 50 with no problem! They were small, but the point being you have the option to do any number of grids that you'd like. 😁👍

Great vid, I may have missed it, but what are the steps to adjust number of tiles in same clip? For instance, a band/song that for part of clip 4 boxes, during chorus 8 boxes, then back to 4 (or up to 12) I cant seem to get the tiles from overlapping
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks! Go into the inspector and under the effect, you can adjust global number of tiles by rows/columns or you can adjust tiles individually if you change the little drop-down menu at the top to ‘tiles’

I've been editing on DR17 with my computer no problem for the past few months. This morning, I updated Davinci Resolve. I spent all day trying to edit my video, and the video collage makes it SO clunky (like... completely unusable). I did the "5 step method" by decreasing proxy media resolution and am using optimized media etc, and that doesn't seem to be helping at all. This effect is making editing impossible. I'm not sure why, or what I'm doing wrong. Anyone else having performance problems as soon as this effect is used?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rachel! Thanks for checking out the video! Are you running the free version of Resolve? I haven't tried the effect since the most recent update, but that is strange. You can try going to the Playback menu at the top, then down to Proxy Mode and change that to half resolution. That might help with playback too. Also in the Playback menu, then Render Cache, set it to Smart. Also give your computer and Resolve a restart. If it's still clunky, I'd try creating a new project, then Select everything in your first project and CTRL C to copy it, then go into the new project and CTRL V to paste it in there. Sometimes files get corrupt or have wacky things happen with them. I found that a lot of times a new project file will help fix issues. Best of luck, hope one of these things works for you! Thanks for watching!

Is there any way to automate the tile allocation process? For example like a multicam clip containing multiple video files, or for right now is it relegated to having multiple clips and adjusting the parameters on a clip by clip basis? I guess you could batch them by tile throughout the timeline, but still requires adjusting the parameters per tile.

You made it clear how to easily put clips into separate tiles. I still don't understand how you achieve the effect with clips that have audio in them, like the six clips of you interacting with you. I would love a tutorial that shows that. Thanks.
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 2 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! Since all of the video clips and audio clips are in there on track, I just make sure I record enough of me just sitting there before I say anything so that way I can move the clip around and put the audio where I want it to be. Good idea though maybe I’ll make a video about that in the future. 😁👍

@@JasonYadlovski, thank you. I'm trying to visualize this. Do you record on track and cut it into separate tracks to get multiple versions of you? Or, do you shoot each track separately and make sure that long enough to remain on screen together? Hope my question is clear.

Followed the first steps but when resize and one video image is on far left while other far right, both cropped to fit in their respective box as show in video, but because video is above the other video in the timeline, the top image blacks out the other even though they are cropped and moved away from each other. For the second way shown how to do, set the background, but selecting the video - would not allow effects tab to alter the things as described in the video

Sounds like you might need to adjust the settings of the effect so it works properly. Without being able to play with it, I'm not sure what guidance to give. I hope you figured it out! Thanks for watching!

Super helpful! Towards the end of the video, you mention making a template so that you can use it over and over again. How would you go about doing this? That would save me soooo much time. Thank you!!

Really useful to know about how those tiles work. I found it quite time consuming first time I used it but I think you have shown how it was intended to be used. I also use William Justice's grids which are also fantastic. Quick question regarding your Blue Yeti Mic - do you record an audio track in Davinci or Audacity while recording your video, then sync or do you somehow have the mic plugged into your camera? I have a Blue Yeti but never really use it as I can't really figure out how to use it best. Thanks.

Hey Dan, thanks for watching! For my Yeti - I actually record into my Mac using Screnflow for Mac. On my camera, I just make sure I am recording audio so I can sync it up, but I don't really care how good it sounds from the camera. In Screenflow, I export just the audio which I then bring into DaVinci Resolve. Once in Resolve, I also bring in my video clip then I use the tip in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oZ6GgMxpmLangGQ.html to sync my video and audio. It's quick and works great for me every single time. Then I just do a little audio editing in Fairlight and boom, I've got some great audio. I love it Yeti, it sounds great right out of the box. Hope this helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Is there a way that you could completely customize the size and arrangements of the tiles? I'm trying to make different layouts and I'm not sure how to put the boxes in complex positions besides the default columns and rows.

Hi! You just have to play with the settings and the inspector, you can adjust the placement and size of all the cells by making adjustments to all the various things and the inspector. Not sure if there’s a quick and easy way to do it though.

Fantastic! Many thanks! Off topic - how did you create the different colours in your background? Six different sheets or some magic lamp? :-)
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Haha, no magic lamp. I have RGB LED flood lights on the floor and an RGB LED light strip at the ceiling. I can make any color I want pretty much. The strip lights are made by GoVee kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bdGdm9KH296rl5s.html the the flood lights by Novastella kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qcd7ntlz3Nm6aHU.html They are both great. Hope this helps! 👍😁

Just to be sure, to second method consumes a LOT more cpu power, right? Since you have more instances of the plugin fx. Thanks for your content, awesome channel!

Hi! I'm not sure actually. I Haven't tested it enough to know what's consuming more power. I also use the Studio version with by default uses much more GPU power than the free version. The free version basically uses CPU for everything whereas the Studio uses a lot of GPU and much less CPU to process things. Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much for the idea! However, my Davinci resolve only allows 4 video tracks continuously. Is it because it's free? Were you using the purchased version?

Hi! Yes, I use an old iPhone 5 as a monitor. My camera is a Canon 5DIV and Canon has an app you can put on your phone that will connect to the built in Wifi of the 5DIV. I can use it as a monitor and a remote to start/stop the camera and adjust settings. It's pretty sweet and works good. 😜

You’re welcome! For your split screen titles, just pick whatever title you want to use and scale it down using the inspector and then place it wherever you want on the screen and you should be good to go. 😁👍

What if you are doing a music video with various musicians but some have shot in portrait mode and others landscape (on iphone) so in other words the frames need to be all different sizes. Does that work using this effect?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Ideally, next time I'd try to have everyone use the same orientation. You can change each individual tile a little bit, but maybe the best thing to do is make one set of tiles for the vertical videos and one set for the horizontal videos. You can combine them all in a Compound clip to act as a group and then have the 2 groups on the screen at the same time. The only other thing to do is to do it all manually and resize them that way. Hope this helps a bit! Best of luck!

As always, thanks for your video Jason. How comfortable do you feel recommending people upgrade to v.17 Beta 2? Does it seem quite stable to you? Thanks.
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
I would say back of your database and go for it. I upgraded to 17.1 and now 17.2 and I did not have any problems along the way. I am on a Mac, it seems like maybe PC users have some issues here and there. Generally I’ve always had a good experience with any of the betas in the past. And I really have had no problems this round either. I can’t stress enough, back up your database before you upgrade. It is not backwards compatible once you upgrade the database to DR 17.
