This is exactly what our kitty needs. She already has a kitty door to come and go, but last nite was the 3rd time she had to be rescued from a tree & this came at a perfect time. She goes crazy shut up in the house. 👏👏👏

I bought a house with a screened in covered porch so my 21 and 11 yr old cats could have a huge catio. Never mind that the kitchen AND bathroom is the size of a postage stamp. 😁

I built one 4x8 with a door so I could put the cat boxes out there. In the winter I used clear heavy duty plastic sheets. They used it all the time. I built it to get the cat boxes out of my closet lolol. They were in the catio all the time. I made long shelves that they took naps on covered in carpet. Your babies will love it.

Great idea on the plastic covering in the winter. My cats always get mad at me when I close it off - they would definitely keep going out there. Might need to add some to mine too!

@@RefreshLiving I got it at the local hardware store they had a lightweight n heavy. I bought the heavy n stapled it up. I reused the next season n was in pretty good shape when I sold my mobile. I think it sealed the deal for the gal buying she also had two cats.

@@RefreshLivingtreated lumber will often take treatments like oil or stain better after a season drying outside - the treatment locks a lot of water inside the wood :)

About $75, but it was 3 years ago and unfortunately cost of lumber has gone up quite a bit. Using a cheaper mesh could help save cost too.

Hi! Everything was screwed together, except I used an electric staple gun to attach the wire mesh to the wood. A manual handheld one would also work!

Nice, but why 2x2? You doubled up on 2x2s at the corners, so why not use 2x4s which would have added strength and stability... instead of having built three independent walls out of 2x2s.

I wanted to staple the hardware cloth to the individual panels rather than having to staple in the corners of a pre-built structure. It's strong and stable and I've had no issues

It's also a catio - not a shed, deck, chicken coop, or any other structure that anyone will be standing on. When the ground treated lumber rots away, I'll build a new base. Not using concrete blocks or a cement pad for this one!

Don't pay attention to the naysayers wanting to let cats roam. They must live in Barbieland. We have cars, coyotes, dogs, cougars and the occasional bear. Cats can pick up diseases or get hurt. Feral cats have a lifespan of about 2 years if they survive winter. We also have a cat bylaw requiring cat must stay in your yard. Yeah right! Catio is an excellent alternative.

Unfortunately, house cats are an invasive species, and this is a better option for wildlife - my kitty isn't happy inside all the time, but we're now close to the highway and so a catteria will be a safer choice for him as well.

@@1Lightdancer if you don't have the right environment to have cat then you should properly concidered whether it's right to own one. Cats are territorial and like to have a large area to roam. Only allowing it to only roam in a restricted space outside if it doesn't like being inside seams extremely cruel and may cause harm gpimg against its natural instincts
