Good starter catio and good for you for doing it yourself. Lots of thinking goes into these projects. I believe in time you will get rid of the wood chips as they are not comfortable to the cat, encourage bugs and mold and my cats decided anything except concrete blocks made a wonderful litterbox (yuck). Plus, they loved lounging on the concrete floor and the blocks were easy to set in (plus easy to clean). Also that screen just isn't going to last (again, speaking from experience). Good 14-16 welded wire works better. To make it more bug proof, you could add a garage door screen, or door screens (Velcro or magnetic) or even build separate framed screens that can be put in and out. Window screening alone will not keep the cats safe and other animals out and I found that even the pet screening did not stand up to determined cat claws. Best to you and thank you for sharing the whole build.

Thanks Diane! I think it's easy to get discouraged when you see professionals creating "beginner friendly" projects that look pristine, so I want to highlight just how much trial and error there is in learning a new skill 🪓

Great job! I hope you stick with it. I’m not sure what type of screws you are using. But I have stopped using Philips head. And switched to both square and torx drive screws. It has all but eliminated the problem of cam out. And stripping the screws. Most of the wording channels have as well. Fisher’s shop always ads one of his grandfathers flat head screws. Lincoln st wood works is great for tips and ideas as well. Keep up the good work 👍🏼

Thank you for your advice! I almost exclusively use Robertsons which are so much easier to work with than Philips. I'll definitely have to check out your recommendations as well. ⚒️

New subscriber after watching the earlier video on the workshop. No doubt Wasabi will enjoy his new outdoor space. I laughed at the wind turning the roof panels into kites as it reminded me of a similar thing when a buddy and I were loading sheets of drywall in some high winds. A safety tip about using the hand drill/driver, position the hand holding the piece farther away in case the bit slips (or a drill bit unexpectedly snaps), particularly when your weight is on the drill. See the 10:40 mark on the video. Happy building!

Great tip about hand placement with the drill! I may or may not have learned that the hard way since this project... Thanks for checking it out 🛠

Good job. You can always get advice from your subscribers & other KZfaq wood workers. I think you should invest in some clamps & a Kreg pocket hole jig. Keep practicing getting your screws in straight...

Absolutely! Thanks for your advice, I know many of my viewers also have incredible amounts of skill and knowledge they can pass along. I do have a pocket hole jig but I've never used it before. I'll have to add that to the list of new tools to try!

Great stuff. Do yourself a favor and use square or torx screws and your cam out problems will be a thing of the past. Another favor is to get an impact driver for driving screws. They are a real game changer, you'll see. :)
@mygrandfathersaxe
@mygrandfathersaxe Жыл бұрын
Oh interesting! Since this project you best bet I went out and bought myself an impact driver. You're absolutely right, they're an instant game changer! I'm curious though, how do you use a square to alleviate cam out? Would love to give it a try! 🛠️

@@mygrandfathersaxe Sorry, I meant a screw with either a square or torx bit in the head instead of using phillip's head screws. And wonderful news on the impact driver!! Keep learning and building!
