Also my quick tip for slicing bell peppers is to slice the top off, turn it upside-down, then slice the sections off, you can rescue any nice bits off the top you cut off, and you can maybe rescue the bottom if it looks good. This way you don't get all the bitter white pith, and the seeds stay neatly together. Less mess, easy clean up!

I'm going to try that! thank you!

Nice, what I normally do is push down on the top and cut in line with sections, then seed and everything is in tact then I get rid of any excess I don't want, literally no waste and minimal clean up😊

Interesting idea to add cocoa powder, my family also puts an unusual ingredient into our chili dishes: cinnamon! In fact it's popular in the midwest to have your chili with nice toasty cinnamon roll on the side, it's the perfect combo of sweet and savory that I would encourage anyone to try. 😊 Thank you for this recipe!

I also love putting celery in all kinds of stew-like dishes. It is an interesting flavor and also very healthy. Plus, if it is cooked, the flavor is not as overwhelming as when it's raw.

Because I had six kids, my chili always had celery/carrots in it, diced small enough so they wouldn't notice. We had to make a pound of hamburger stretch so *many* beans were also added. And ~ I've always moved my cutting board around the kitchen when dicing onions but now I have a hood vent so I just place the cutting board on the stove top and turn the fan on 'high'.

I know it is not authentic to add beans, but to me the beans make it distinctive. Without them it is nothing more than a spicy. glorified sloppy Joe. BTW, instead of bashing the knife try just leaning on it. The cloves will crush much easier and you have less chance of shooting them across the room.

Originally chili wasn't made with ground beef. It was chunks of beef. Beef was always upfront to show off the quality of the cattle they owned. I never use ground beef. But I know it's popular for people. If you use the right chilis and peppers it will never taste like Sloppy Joes.

I do my chilli very similar, I use beef, and I add a ton of veg to make it last a couple of days. I add diced carrot, button mushrooms, red bell pepper, half of a green bell pepper, and sometimes I might chop up some baby sweetcorn too, they act as sponges and soak up all the flavour as the chilli stews. Super yummy. I crumble in a beef oxo cube as the meat cooks through. Because there's so much veg it doesn't need any carbs on the side. Just serve it as a stew with some cheese on, and I like a generous blob of sour cream too 😅❤ YUUUMMMM

I Made this because I'm a subscriber on my email to Preppy Kitchen❤️❤️❤️ A little while back. My boyfriend was scared of the turkey but I had tried turkey chili before and convinced him it would be delicious. It was quite delicious and perfect the way it is. I did add tomatoes because I enjoy the flavor, but beyond that kept everything the same and it was absolutely perfect 👌The recipe made him a believer. The turkey is a lighter and more delicious take on the chili, despite the thought that the beef will be better,I feel it weighs down the dish,so prefer the turkey meat. Love this recipe,is definitely a keeper for the recipe files,a classic;) Wonderful when your hungry when the weather 🌡️ is Hot when you want something light, yet satisfying!

Mirepoix never hurt anything..celery is a great invisible veg that adds flavor, body and texture and more complexity. Oh, beginners..garlic won’t fly out if you press the knife firmly first before smacking it down. I grew up in Tx and no one when I was little ever had a discussion about whether or not ..ok, you just added celery..hilarious! Yeah..I always jump in to commenting before the videos are done. Ok, beans vs no beans..who cares..it’s all good! White bean chili versions are awesome too..vinegar, lime juice, beer, you need an acid in there too.
