If I want to use an object instead of text, how do I apply this same effect?

Hi unfortunately you can't do that. This effects only works for text. If you wanna do it on an object, you have to manually animate the position one by one. Otherwise, there must be an expression out there to automate it (idk any).

Pretty nice! You could also add rotation directly to the position animation, so that you don't have to put ease ease and offset again. The essence is the same, just save a bit of time.

Ah great point! I think the reason why I separated them is so that I have more control on it, hence why I offset them :D

You can copy paste those keyframes, then select on those keyframes and right click, then select time-reverse keyframes :)

1. Make rectangle with shape tool (sit just below the text) 2. Put the shape layer under the text layer 3. Search for Set Matte under Effects & Presets and drag to your text layer 4. Take matte from shape layer 5. Turn on invert matte Text animation 1. Animate position 2. Hide text under matte with position 3. Under range selector animate offset (0-100) and easy ease, animate speedgraph extra ~flavour~ 1. Under advanced change shape to ramp up 2. change offset first keyframe to -100 3. Under animate, add rotation and rotate 4. Change offset for rotate from 0-100

They're pretty much the same thing! Although using set matte, you can use only one layer to "matte" a couple of others. Whereas trkmat, you have to have a matte layer for every single layer

Hi! Sorry it might be a late answer, I just tried this tutorial. I first select the layer that I'm working on (in this case the Reveal text layer) and then added Rotation... it now adds as Animator 2 :)

Omg sorry for the late response. You need unclick the Animator 1 before adding a new value. And make sure you select the "Animate" not "Add"

Hello ! I'm a beginner in AE and I've seen your tutorial ! But I have a problem : When I want to increase the speed, the curve screen is not like that. I've checked other tutorials and I have the same problem. The curves screen is not like the other users :(

Hey Nicolas, thanks for your kind words! There is no one way to do speed graph. Different curve, gives different effect. What I did here, of course, might be different to others. The curve that I did here isnt necessarily to "speed up" the text. It basically just means the animation starts from 0 speed, the ramps up 1/4 of the way, then slows right down at the end. hey! if you're using shape layer like I did, add Gaussian Blur to it Otherwise, instead of use shape layer, use Solid and create mask on it. Then add feather :)

It is not easier to put the matte layer above the text layer and change the track matte of the text layer to inverted alpha? Instead of creating a set matte effect

Hey yep you can absolutely use track matte too. There's no right and wrong! :) I use track matte all the time, but I want to get used to using Set Matte :)

@@Animotion1 Thanks! I've never used Set Matte, but I think it's worth using when we're trying to apply the same reveal effect in many layers at the same time/same comp, right? In that way we don't need to create various solid layers to apply the track matte individually in each text layer, for example. Is it right? Great video, btw!

hey, i might be 6 months late on this, but make sure your matte layer has a FILL in it! thats what fixed my issue. it needs to be a filled solid, cant be empty. then you'd turn the eye icon off so it's not visible.

Oh! Literally just go on the Text Tool or hit T on your keyboard. And then click on the screen :D no fancy way, just basic thing you'd do in any design/animation softwares!
