Rob, I have a huge amount of respect for all you do, sharing your knowledge and helping vets. I have your dovetail saw and sharpening kit, have learned how to cut beautiful dovetails, and keep learning from you. So respectfully, I’m not a fan of the animated intro. My background is 45 years in the advertising industry, and for me it just doesn’t fit with someone who produces such high quality work. Not trying to be negative, just offering a perspective. I’m sure that you and your team have thought this through. On the other hand, I’ve been watching the hair progression over the last year, and it’s looking pretty awesome!

I'm relatively new to this channel/woodworking and have watched hours and hours of his past videos. This one took me by surprise because I always saw him with the same hair. Nothing negative, just a surprise. I love his method of teaching without the quirky personalities like some of the other 'professional woodworkers'. This guy goes to the next level. Liked and subscribed!

Nice build. I made my back piece wider and use my hold fasts. I also pinch the moxon vice with the wagon vice to add additional hold. This way I eliminate the f clamps on the front of the work bench. I don't have a lip on my bench as you do. (well actually I do but it is a full 8" thick.)

that's a great looking kit, Rob, and I like that it's portable so you could take it to a jobsite if you needed to. $220 seems like a big chunk of change but not when you consider the quality and heftiness of the parts and that it will provide several lifetimes worth of use. I think it was you who I first saw put a moxon vise on the end of a table saw and thought it was such a neat idea.

Wow this kit is amazing pretty cool and useful...I would like to share how my father did a "hinge vise" so he used only one screw (scafolding leveling screw) with a wooden wheel...one fixed jaw like yours but the front jaw was attached using a heavy duty gate hinge at left side and only one screw at right...to compensate the diferent thickness he taperated the front jaw (the gap was big at left) and used at left,center and right for his normal wood thickness job...it worked for him until he passed way (almost 40 years with that vise)...no kits in Brazil in 1974 Congratulations from Brazil

When I see what can be accomplished by woodworkers on KZfaq that have the talent of a Rob Cosman but few less tools to work with and still produce the same quality. There is definitely a need in this hobby for sites like Rob’s to serve those that can afford high quality tools and collect one of almost everything even when they don’t have the level of talent that Rob has developed over time. I remember meeting Rob back years ago when he travelled the wood show circuit in my area and even purchased a beautiful dove tail saw from him. I admire him for moving South and developing a line of his own. My moto is buy only what you need, when you need it and within your budget. I am old enough to remember the tv show “The New Yankee Workshop”. It made a ton of money for tool manufacturers because of Norm.🇨🇦👍👨‍🦳

I'd like to make the knobs in the wheels quick release, that one could remove them, slide on a tie rod (read: a long thin mending plate), then replace the knobs... then, at the center of the tie rod, bore out a hole, slot in a stand-off, and add a third knob, so one could actuate both wheels with one handle (think like train wheels). The quick release on the knobs makes it a minimal hassle to remove the tie rod for asymmetric clamping.

They are smart improvements to your moxon kit. It really sets it apart from many of the other choices out there. Q. Why do you lock the threaded bar in the rear vice jaw rather than locking it in the turn handles. Locking it in the handles means the thread can't protrude when the vice is locked up on a piece. ???
@RobCosmanWoodworking
@RobCosmanWoodworking Жыл бұрын
There wouldn’t be a good way to lock it to the front jaw, while allowing it to thread easily in and out of the nuts on the rear jaw.

@johnburens3395
@johnburens3395 10 ай бұрын
If they don't sell them then you could easily make two bushings from brass tube you can find at any reputable metal supplier. Clamped properly in a miter saw you can make two cuts off one end. And no, the brass wont hurt a good carbide tipped blade for just a couple of cuts. Make sure to use some wax on your blade to make the cut smoother and go slow through the cut. Hope this helps you!

It should be at whatever angle you like to prevent you from sawing into your Moxon vide. If the only thing you saw at the vise is half-blind dovetails then make the angle for that

I like the idea of a Moxom Vise but this package is overkill. A simple kit like the one demonstrated on another site (3 x3 Custom Tamar) shows how simple and inexpensive the vise can be built for around $60 USD. Not sure why all the chrome and extra parts are required, it’s just a vise, not a piece of furniture. Good to see that you are using a quality set of Canadian IBC made bench chisels. Expensive but for those wanting the best and have deep pockets. The market in the U.S. must be a profitable one.🇨🇦👍👨‍🦳 p.s: I still have the Lie Neilson dovetail saw with the custom handle and love it.
