In this video I will show you how to catch mackerel the easy way. This method is my preferred method for catching mackerel quickly, a few to cook or for bait. Hopefully this tutorial on what I use and the setup will help you catch mackerel too. The venue I chose is not the easiest type of mark to fish but this guide should enable you to fish those harder areas to get you venturing out to quiet spots away from the crowds of other anglers. Thanks for watching.

About a month ago, I was teaching two guys up near Oban how to mackerel fish and it pretty much followed exactly as you suggest, even to dispatching the fish. The only difference is that I still use mono (8lb, so light enough to still cast 70 yards or so). I tried braid but found it was very prone to wear on any rocks and just too expensive to replace. Keep up the good work. I followed your advice on using bombarda for sea trout and it has helped a lot. Thanks 👍

Great job on the teaching side to get people catching fish👍I’ve had the same braid on the real for 4 seasons now, admittedly it’s length is a wee bit shorter than when I first put it on the real from wear and tear.I do use this real for a multitude of different fishing uses like kayak lure fishing for cod and pike. Thanks for the feedback on the bombarda Angus and for commenting. Tight lines

Really enjoy your vids, especially the tutorials on Bombarda fishing. I found them most informative for my recent trip to Scotland. Excellent fun and technique. Agree about 20-60g rod weight, and the Penn Battle 4000 is a true workhouse of a spinning reel. The ‘transit van’ of the reel world. One Q though, when you say ‘straight into deep water’, what are you calling ‘deep’ ? How many feet ? I also use Navionics and it is fun researching my own marks, but what depth are we looking for ? Top work. Keep the vids coming.

Had got several of the Bombarda floats in different weights and with the floating and slow sinking though not tried the slow sinking as yet , as where i fish with with rocks also can be a bit iffy i suspect Plus have to watch for birds in the water , as been known small ducks have grabbed baits and no one wants that a hooked bird and had happened not to me but has to others . I got Bombarda idea from your past video catching sea trout thanks . And also for me Scotland is tops for fishing . Top scenery also seems where u are adds to the fishing . Ignore any of the not good comments as i suspect they are jealous . You are showing them videos and they do aid others in how to tie things and what to buy etc and good for newbies learning ..I was always a fresh water trout fishing guy but them days on salt water fishing into sea . Mate dont worry about the negative comments, i have just gone and watched your first video and personally i think it was really good. Good tip for new anglers is practice, practice and more practice, you can watch a million videos and yes learn tips and tricks but practice is still what is needed. Lastly people shouldnt try to copy exactly what you do, they should look at not only your videos but all fishing videos as guides and not a how to. Its like people who watch football religiously and see the skills professionals use week in week out, doesnt mean they can do it without practice. Sorry for the rant mate. Have subbed and look forward to more great content.

Fantastic brother thanks… instead of using a weight do you think I could use a metal lure to follow the feathers?
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 24 күн бұрын
Thanks David. Absolutely!! a metal lure is fantastic as long as it’s heavy enough to get your rig out. I use it a lot but I just wanted to show the very basics in the video. There is a few advantages of using a metal lure, it doesn’t sink as fast as a weight, great for shallower water. Bigger mackerel often take the lure and you can’t catch fish on a lead weight😂

Lovely Video I caught my first fish ever on 15 Sep at Llandudno North Beach 30 min after high tide. Like your details about line and rig I used 15lb Mono straight to Rig Via a Swivel and OKUMA BREAKAWAY FAST LINKS. Had a 20g Spinning Fishing Lure Spoon Metal weight with 3 hooks attached. one fish completely swallowed all 3 hooks had to dispatch it to get them out. I will look into your methods.

Thank you for an informative video, as an angler of some sixty years the only thing that I would add, would be a swivel to the top of your trace and a snap swivel to the bottom. These allow a quicker tackle up or change of tackle if you want to change and I feel that there is less wear on the lead end, but this is not a critisism.

@PiscatorUK-Fishing 9 ай бұрын
Thanks James, appreciate that. If your wanting your son to be able to cast safety without much trouble from snagging on the bottom, I would recommend somewhere like Helensburgh pier, like any fishing even for mackerel, I can’t guarantee they will be there. It’s mostly sandy bottom so you would be able to cast out with a weight and some mackerel bait on he bottom. If your looking for a rock mark? Drive through Garelochhead and stay on the road to Rosneath. About a mile along the road there is a large lay-by on the right of road with parking also on the left. It’s a very popular mark and relatively deep water. Tight lines buddy🎣

I would add that for food Mackies are much nicer if you bleed them immediately. For bait I wouldn't bleed them out as you want the blood in your baits. Good video. Thanks for the tip on the navionics app very useful.

Good to see that you respect the fish when you decide to keep them, and don't let them flap about and suffocate. Touching a mackerel to release it, is fine and for some reason, the myth continues that they die if touched.

Most folk that are saying you make it look too easy is folk who have probably bought a cheap rod , jumped into their local tackle shop bought a few packs of feathers and weights and went down the sea and blanked , As everyone has said and you already know anyways your a grown man don’t let any negativity get in your head it takes a lot to start a Chanel and sit and record yourself and take time out your day to give people like myself fantastic content to watch👍🏻as you said you don’t know everything and neither do I, but I’m certainly taking your tip on using the feathers upside down and giving it a try next time

Not enough tackle shops left on the isle of man sadly and its due to online shopping. I understand you m8 it's all new to some and if you don't know you don't know, I've been teaching someone to fish for over a year and he recently told me he's not interested and it's not like I forced it on the guy he said he wanted to know as much as possible so I drew diagrams for him to practice rigs etc and it's all for nout but atleast I know in future I'll ask if you want to know I'll show my methods but don't waste my time if you're not really interested. Anyway great content, I always think best fishing is an area with Pollack wrasse and mackerel and trying floating lug rag or sandeels your almost garunteed a fish.

Very good, I am quite experienced but still found it interesting. I used to live in Exeter and you can get mackerel down there all year around. I have moved back home to the North East of England so now I am not so lucky as it is my favourite fish to catch and eat, it saddens me to see people pulling them in 6 at a time and just leave them drowning in air. I assume west coast of Scotland, but where? Not the exact mark, but just rough area as I may be having a holiday in Scotland later in the year. John

@Lifeofjack09 without doubt the AKASO Brave 7, great quality for the price and customer service. It will fit all GoPro compatible mounting attachments. Battery life is twice as long compared to GoPro. I’ve never had any of the issues that I’ve had with the GoPro, operates perfectly in cold and hot temperatures. The only thing with the AKASO compared to GoPro is, it doesn’t have 4K 60fps it only has 4K 30fps but I never film in 4K just 1080p. Hope this helps.

Used to catch hundreds of these as a kid in Scotland. Loved Mackerel for both fishing and eating. Used the same killing technique but had my fingers in the gills before pulling back, this broke a major blood vessel and they would shoot blood for a fair distance, Made the flesh better. In South Australia now and the mackerel here just anit the same.

Hello Issak, I am unsure why the app is asking for subscription, are you an iPhone user? Is it offering a free trial? If it is I would go ahead with that and then cancel subscription after using it. You should still be able to use it but it will be the basic settings and will give you depth and contours of the sea bed.

Some people do bleed mackerel but it’s a personal preference and what you consider a quick death. I have never tried bleeding mackerel prior to cooking so I couldn’t comment if there’s a difference in taste. When the fish are caught commercially they don’t bleed them.
