I just use the fire starter cubes and light it with a match. No biggie.
@smudgemartens5 жыл бұрын
Setting the tube vertical and lighting with a heat gun is a brilliant idea. The butane torch took much longer to flame the pellets and the cube rarely burned all of the way through. Letting the cube burn like a candle before placing it horizontal in the grill ensures that hot ashes have a chance to travel to the center of the tube to provide the best chance of a constant and thorough burn. Thanks for saving me much time and frustration.

Thanks for the info . I like the heat gun idea . I have one and i will start using it to light my tube . Love these smoke tubes .

The first time I used my 12 inch tube, I was doing a 9lb pork butt with it. I wanted to super smoke it. When the tube was done burning, I decided to refill it. When I lifted it up, the ashes shot out and dropped all over inside my Pit Boss! So now I put a piece of aluminum foil under it that is large enough to wrap the tube before I remove it. That way no ashes drop on your food or in your cooker! On long cooks I may fill the tube again and this really keeps the ash under wraps when I pull the burnt tube out... Good Smokin Y'all!

From everything I have gathered. The meat stops absorbing smoke flavor after the first couple hours.

I just purchased a smoke tube. I couldn’t find my torch and I went looking (on KZfaq) for another option. Your video popped up and I knew exactly where my heat gun was. My 12 year old (he loves using the heat gun) and I then set out to try your tip and it worked SO INCREDIBLY WELL! Thank you sir. Big thumbs up and you now have a new subscriber.

Great idea to use the heat gun, versus a torch. I'll give this method a try! Heat guns can be attained for relatively cheap prices, and no fuel required.
@kazper20115 жыл бұрын
I read a forum where someone said a newspaper covered with olive oil and a stick light. Maybe use the hear gun instead of the lighter.

What's the difference between fuel and electricity?
@bRIZZAd3 жыл бұрын
@@anthonybassilakis6197 Fair point, although electricity is always available with a simple plug-in. If you need a torch, you need to re-fill that fuel source eventually.
@truth65542 жыл бұрын
I don't know why you would use a heat gun. That uses way more energy than a flame to do the same job.
@bRIZZAd2 жыл бұрын
@@truth6554 no need to fill up on fuel. Electricity is always 'on-tap' by plugging in. It ignites quick too. Plus, I already had a heat gun from some electrical work... so no need to go buy a torch.

Hey, quick question. I generally use the maze for my smoking, but every once in a while I use two smoker at the same time (one hot and one cold method) and i'll use the tube then. My problem is that the tube will smoke nicely for a little bit and then suddenly catch fire again and all the pellets will burn out before I even think anything is wrong. This has happened pretty occasionally to the point where I don't want to use my tube smoker. Any tips on how to prevent this?

@robertwren22893 жыл бұрын
You had to light it two more times, I'm using a kitchen torch, but the real key is to microwave the pellets for 1 1/2 minutes. It gets them dry, and they stay lit.
@scubamage5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Years ago some friends got me one but I haven't been able to keep it lit to save my life. I'd been using a small butane torch. I'll definitely give the heat gun a shot. I really appreciate it! Curious - how were you prepping the brisket? Just a cold smoke before starting up your pellet smoker?
@Patriotsoul2 жыл бұрын
Same here. I’ve done everything from heating the pellets in the microwave to make them extra dry to letting them stay on fire. As soon as I put it in my running smoker they go out. My smoker is electric and never puts out enough smoke so I figured I would try this. Maybe I need to cold smoke them before turning the grill on??
@ripemm57373 жыл бұрын
I use a butane torch ,take no time.my question is does the tube add enough heat that in messes with the temp on the smoker
@mvanalst20033 жыл бұрын
Fair question, but the smoke tube really doesn’t add much heat at all. I’d say a very insignificant amount. Grill on!

I have been having issues with getting it to smoke enough and it catching fire.. am I doing something wrong?? I light it and met it burn for 10 minutes. My question is should I put in in the grill still on fire? I am normally putting into a 250-275 heater grill. Should I put in before I turn grill on? I use the pellets and only get maybe 2 hours of smoke but it constantly catches on fire
@funbiz994 жыл бұрын
You can put it in the grill hot or cold. If the flame re-ignites wind / air must be blowing on it. If it goes out usually grease is dripping on it or tilt the tube at a slight angle. 6" tube should burn 2 hours 12" tube should burn 4 hours Do not put it in while its on fire
@Papadoc10004 жыл бұрын
Reduce the air flow. This isn't always easy, but I have found that very loosely wrapping it in foil helps to prevent the fire, and it also helps to disburse the smoke rather than having a straight line up to the food. I want my food smoked, not full of soot or a tar like substance, which can happen to anything that has a straight line of smoke. Candles and hurricane lamps can have the same issue.

@johnnydavila24875 жыл бұрын
make sure you have enough air flow in your smoker for the pellets to stay lit, also make sure grease isnt falling into the tub can smother the coals
@leighlogan96484 жыл бұрын
Johnny davila Agreed. The drip-pan method can be problematic if you’re doing a hot smoke (this looks like a bacon cold-smoke to me). To avoid pellet spills during a hot smoke, consider wrapping a thick ring of foil around the tube to keep it propped up on the grill rack. This tip comes from another KZfaqr whose channel I can’t recall (Dash at SSBBQ, maybe?) and it’s worked for me.

Justin Weinberg you can stand the tube up if you have the space or use a piece of wire attached to your rack which can keep it at a angle
@starwarsfanforlife5 жыл бұрын
Just lay the tube down in the grill and light it. That way you don’t have to move it and risk the flame going out. Just be sure to get it cherry red hot at the beginning and also make sure the pellets are packed in the tube with no gaps.

isn't all that white smoke supposedly 'dirty smoke'?
@Papadoc10004 жыл бұрын
It's not ideal, but it's not a real problem either if done right. I won't put the smoker uncovered and right under the meat, as it tends to put a residue on the meat. He is fine for the moment as that fire end is on the far left side. But a couple hours into this and it's going to be right under the meat. That said, always use quality pellets rather than cheaper off-brand pellets that can have just about anything in them including floor sweeping. There is no FDA requirement for pellets, so reputation of the company and how much their brand is worth is vital in my opinion. I saw some pellets over at Walmart for $2.50 for a 20# bag. Almost guaranteed to be pelletized trash.

Ok need to step in here, seeing this guy use a heat gun was painful, not so easy, for sure not so efficient, looked pretty stupid, he may as well been rubbing two pellets together like sticks. No offence but that was moronic. Without any need to caveman the shit with a heat gun, easy was is use the liquid gel that amaz-n-smoke has and a lighter, squirt a little gel on top of the pellets, click a lighter and poof its light, like 30 seconds and no flying light pellets, no pellets flying at all, nice and clean. It’s pretty foolish to light a smoker tube with a heat gun, your asking fro trouble, not sure why this guy sees this as easy, fire works much better, period. You can use a propane torch much quicker than heat gun and again no flying pellets, you can get a cooking torch for about 10 dollars or so, nice and small and lights in seconds without gel, with gel even faster. Sorry buddy but people need to know this stupidity they see, some might actually have followed this and I hope they read before the actually do it, not very smart.
