EASY Wooden Frame ASSEMBLY (for beehives)

Күн бұрынI haven't seen a lot of videos about frame assembly on KZfaq so I decided to make one. I ordered a Jig from Hillco andJeff from Premier Bee Products sent me a video showing me their process. Their setup was better and more efficient than mine, but the basics were the same. foundation. Hopefully you will find this video beneficial in your operation. Throughout the video I use the term Premier Foundation. It is now known as Puracell Foundation and is part of their Pura line of beekeeping products at Premier Bee Products.

I really need to get a jig made up. I'm still doing it the old fashioned way. Seeing this, so much faster.

Wow. Gluing the endbars before you put them into the jig. That's my take away. I've been doing it the hard way! Thanks Bruce!

Yes it works well. Jeff sent me a video of how they were doing it at Premier Bee products. I tried my best to do it like they did up there.

It's a good method. I've been doing it like that for a few years now. I've done a number of videos on my channel assembling frames using that glue method.

That side shot staple is key. I stopped doing it and have paid the price. I need to start back taking the time to shoot that staple. Thanks for sharing Bruce!

Nice video, Bruce. I utilize same procedure with a jig I built from a Med box and some old clamp rails. Like Mike said, that staple thru the end bars into the top bar is a necessity for longevity.

Oh wow using a brush to apply the glue is genius, I've just been squeezing it on one peice at a time.

I made my own jig but John Hills is better for sure. After seeing the price premiere foundation folks had for pre-assembled frames with foundation had for Hive Life conference I couldn’t pass it up or justify the time to build my own. Not to say I won’t be back out in the shed building them later. Thanks for the video Bruce. See you at Hive Life

Will that Jig work with Super or medium frames as well? Or just deeps? Thank you again for all your awesome videos. Really helpful for us newbies.

I have both the medium and deep jig. Have never used the medium. Believe it or not I have had bees for basically 10 years and this year is the first I have put together some of my own frames. I have always just ordered plastic frames or assembled wood frames in the past.

You don't really need the end staple since the glue does the work once dry....and you can insert the foundation before nailing the bottom bar. I can do 10 in about 5 minutes. 100 in an hour.

Thanks for the tip but I like it for insurance. This foundation really snaps in quickly. I am pretty quick at it but prefer to neither buy single piece plastic frames or buy them already put together.

Bruce ive tried and tried to go back to wooden frames but i just cant do it. Im stuck on the plastic frames. The only foundation i get now is for my shallow supers. I do intend on going with premier this year, ive got a stack of 200 in my cart, just waiting until after xmas to pull the trigger on it lol

Yeah I like plastic frames as well. May start using more wooden brood frames because I am thinking about selling some nucs and I think most folks prefer wooden frames. Still haven’t decided for sure.

Ha Bruce does Hillco still sale the frame jig I cant seem to find it on there web site I enjoyed the video I have been doing it to old time consuming way. how would u cut out queen cells to use them with plastic foundation. Have a wonderful Christmas

You probably need to call Hillco and ask. That’s what I did. I don’t know that I have ever cut a cell from plastic foundation but I know it can be done. Just has to be done very carefully.

What kind of gun are you using? Are you pleased with it?

It’s just a cheap 1/4 staple gun. Not even sure you can find these just like this now. There are several brands out there. If I were to buy another one I will probably spend a little more money. Don’t really have a strong opinion on what is best.

Bruce, do you not glue the bottoms or did I miss it?

Yes I glue them. I guess I must have edited out the flip when I was applying the glue. If you watch closely you can see the difference in the tops and bottoms.

Premier Bee Products. Not sure of name for the brush but it is a silicone brush you can get at the paint section at Lowe’s.

5:17 Your end staple is mostly going into the groove and doing no good at all. Offset it a bit to catch the top bar.
