Host Lucas Peterson gets in on some frozen, syrupy action this week on Dining on a Dime, as he visits Uncle Clay’s House of Pure Aloha. The beloved Uncle Clay himself sets Peterson up with a few of the shop’s most popular shave ice concoctions, and he even takes a spin at the ice shaving machine.

Uncle was known for making ICEE treats, he would put all kinds of topping on a regular ICEE treat. He would ask you "Where you from?" then he would make something to match your sweet tooth. He's the best!

SNUFALUFAGUS 3000 I've had both. All Hawaiian ices are not finely shaved, and all piraguas are not coarse

I met Uncle Clay once at the original Aina Haina Shopping Center spot right here; Customer service wise: he seems such a friendly, welcoming person, with a kind soul; There used to be another HOPA (House of Pure Aloha) spot at Ala Moana Shopping Center (but it got shut down in Aug. 2020); I hope that the Aina Haina location is still open..

Thanks for this video! Sigh..memories. I grew up in Aina Haina when the shop Uncle Clay talked about was a few doors down and tiny. Used to go there as a kid and buy cracked seed and icees and everyone used to just call the shop "Chinese store". And shave ice isn't your typical snow cone. If you've had one before, it's super finely shaved like fresh snow. It just dissolves in your mouth instantly. It's great. Although, I still think Shimazu Store has better shave ice. ;)
