Science tip: sweating cools your skin through evaporation, so if you're taking a forehead temp it's likely to be cooler when you're sweating even if your core temperature has gone up. That's likely why you both had gotten colder the second time you checked. It's also one of the reasons forehead temperatures are a bit inaccurate and finicky, so if it's really important you take a temp somewhere else.

Indeed, they should have used rectal thermometers because eating a large amount of food causes your body to redirect blood flow, and therefore heat, to the digestive system.

Ideally perfect body temperature is supposed to be 36.6~36.7°C (100°F, I think, not sure), but that's more of an "internal" value, you'll need rectal thermometer for this.
