This week I went around Kaneohe to discover the great eats it has to offer.

Love Haleiwa Joe’s. You would never know you’re in the middle of a neighborhood because of the lush greenery that surrounds it. Always great service, great food and of course beautiful scenery 🫶🏻🫶🏻. Ho’omaluhia is a wonderful place to eat, enjoy the Ko’olaus and walk around. I had to come back and watch this video again. Mahalo for eating around my home town. I need to get out more….lol.

use to love going to oahu to eat at a different place everytime mostly town area when i was still in hs use to go megs in kalihi walking distance frm my aunts apartment on mc neil st aloha 🌺🤙🌺🍜

Aiden is such a good eater. He eats the taro leaves so nicely. kulolo, poi, laulau, and lomi salmon is LIFE!!!

My ex wife and I got married and celebrated our wedding at haiku gardens in 1979. It’s a beautiful restaraunt in a beautiful setting. Food was good too. In the late 70s I used to go to the People’s cafe on Pali highway in front of longs drugs just before the freeway for Hawaiian food. That restaurant had every Hawaiian food you could think of. Man, I miss Hawaii..there was also a place called Nanakuli drive in in nanakuli. They served good Hawaiian food too.

I remember People's Cafe by Longs. One of the rare places that sold watercress and pork soup.

Haleiwa Joe's 2-lb. Prime Rib is my favorite. Years ago when I first ordered the Prime Rib, I thought I couldn't finish it, but was so Ono, I finished. Everything on the menu is a winner. You cannot go wrong there.

I remember the restaurant as Haiku Gardens restaurant. That was 1984. You are so lucky. We have nothing in Sacramento. The Chinese food is bland or just terrible. I'd rather go to Panda Express because they have a standard and I know what I'm getting. The Japanese food here is just okay. Is it just me or has my generation just forgotten how to cook? You seem to be surviving and haven't come to the mainland. You are fortunate in so many ways. Nothing can replace your heart, your memories, or the simple things in life that matter most such as good food.😊

Try check out Hawaii Pickle Lady on KZfaq. She teaches how to cook old Hawaii foods that mainlanders miss. So far I am getting by but I dont intend on living here after I retire. Mahalo for watching!

My wife grew up in Ali'i Shores, went to He'eia/King/Castle and we lived in Kaneohe and Kahaluu/Ahuimanu area for several years. We spend tons of time over there with family and still have family parties in Ali'i Shores. We still do round the island "eating" tours any time we can. My wife is Kaneohe Japanese and you can always spot them. Completely different than the Aiea, Pearl City, or townie Japanese :)

We just thoroughly enjoyed true Hawaiian food at Waiahole Poi Factory, thanks to you, Misty! We got the Kanaka Nui plate, which included pretty much all the items you mentioned: Poi (very smooth and tasty), Squid Lu’au (yum!), Chicken Long Rice (amazing ginger flavor in this!), Kalua Pig (fabulous smoky flavor, perfectly done), Laulau, Lomi Salmon, and Haupia dessert. Oh, and we added a side of rice. We shared all that, and then we each got the Sweet Lady of Waiahole dessert. So good! My favorites were the Kalua Pig and the Chicken Long Rice. My husband’s favorites were the Squid Lu’au and the Poi. Thank you for your informative and helpful videos! I really enjoy them, and hearing what you have to say. Mahalo!

oh, so KJ's cut it down to 4 thighs now ?...used to be 5 when the last time I went there in Oct 2018. Poor customer service and got my order wrong, and the chicken tastes just like Foodland's fried chicken... so it's not a place to go of interest...especially when they changed their sides so that the mac salad was NO LONGER included with the rice but now as an option. The Adela's Country Eatery I will need to try that place out.

Did KJs change owners?? Not as good as before - you are right used to 5 pieces of Chicken - too salty anyways. Why is that most successful restaurants go that route - cut back on quality and quantity - and raise the prices - and wonder why people stop coming.

What a great day trip! The plate lunch looked very Ono! Kaneohe Joe’s looked like a great dinner house with a great lanai dining deck. Looks like a must try on my next trip to Hawaii!👍
