Eating The BEST & WORST Street Food Of Cameroon

While driving from Kribi to Yaoundé in Cameroon, we decided to say YES to every single street food vendor selling along the road. From sardine sandwich to smoked fish, sugary drink, peanuts and more and bought ALL THE SNACKS we saw on our road trip along the Cameroonian roads.
It all started with wonderful beignets we found while still in Kribi. From there I met a wonderful "African Mama" making sandwich on the side of the road. Those were made on demand with a fresh baguette, some sardine, eggs and peppery sauce. A bit fishy tasting but not bad at all. Tracey was not that excited about trying the famous smoked Fish you can find all around Kribi Town but we had to after seeing where its from and how it's made. Otherwise, from peanuts to plantain chips and Cameroonian chocolate, we tried it ALL!

bitter cola is one of the best things you bought. you peal it first before eating either way eating with skin is ok too. is medicine, especially it can help for stomach ache, cold etc you should eat one daily.

The bitter stuff(”Bitter Colanut” is the name) you eat is a very powerful medication there in Cameroon. It's like a first aid box, if you have any health issue like stomach ache, vomiting, etc… just eat half of it and in less than 5 minutes you'll come back. Let me not talk about when you mix it with some other herbs, the combo is great! I enjoy your videos so much!

Bita cola=Bitter Cola (because there is a different one less bitter than this one). If you consume it regularly, it hard to be KO by malaria. Very popular for the fact in Congo 🇨🇩

Cola nut. 500 CFA is about US$1 ??? that's what it was 42 years ago too. However a bottle of beer was perhaps 300 to 500 CFA only. A decent room for a night was only 1500 CFA and a really good one (for there) was 5000 CFA. No huge multinational hotel chains back then. Fully air con hotels were almost non existent. The 5000 CFA per night were with in window A/C. Considering that my salary in Nigeria was about US $10 a day ($300 per month) I couldn't afford the A/C rooms very much.

⁠ Hi Dave, Interesting videos from my Country Cameroun 🇨🇲. Just wanted to drop some comments on your experience driving back to Yaoundé. That “Bitter” thing you bought for 500 CFA francs which is the right price by the way, is called “Bitter Kola”, and in some other parts of the world it’s called “Garnicia Kola”. It has a lot of medicinal virtues and one the most popular is male enhanced sex drive, especially when taken with Guinness beer, you’ll be surprised the girlfriend will be asking for more, and I’m not kidding. The other one is preventing you from getting upset stomach. Yes, it has a bitter taste so I would recommend you take it after dinner and or a couple of hours before going to bed. Hope you have a wonderful stay in Cameroon 🇨🇲.

We don't eat that fish way, we cook it in a stew before eating. What you ate at the seventh minute of the video is called "bitter cola" in fact we cannot really call it a street food, its like a natural medicine very good for health. We usually eat it when we have stomach ache from eating food difficult to digestion... We also eat it to calm down hunger. In fact it is a great natural medicine that's why the taste sour! I mean medicine is not meant to be sweet to the tongue!😅
