SUN PRINCESS SHIP TOUR
Like all of our cruise ship tours, we start at the top of Sun Princess and work our way down.
This Sun Princess tour starts at deck 19, home to Park 19. Park 19 is the most active family space on any Princess Cruise. It includes the new Sea Breeze hang glider, the Net, the Coastal Climb, and more.
Decks 18 and 17 are home to the open decks. This re-imagined lido deck contains
the upgraded Sanctuary, the first in the fleet to have a pool. There is also the main pool deck, with two pools and whirlpools, not to mention several bars, including the Sun Bar, the Mix Cocktail Bar, and the new Coffee and Cones.
Forward of the ship is the Sea View Terrace, a new partially covered sun deck that offers great views, a signature bar, and the first indoor-outdoor pool on a Princess Cruises ship. There is also the Dome, a multi-functional space.
For dining, there is the new Lido Eats poolside eatery with four stalls and a bar. These decks are also the Fitness Center, the Lotus Salon, which provides services for men and women, and the first IV treatment room in the fleet.
INSIDE DECKS ON OUR SUN PRINCESS SHIP TOUR
Decks 16 - 9 contain mostly staterooms. We stayed in a deluxe balcony cabin, room 14220, which was forward on the port side of deck 14.
The newly designed piazza is midship on decks 7-9. Many restaurants, bars, lounges, and other public spaces are right off this central hub of activity.
On deck 9, there is the Go Princess Shore Excursions and Photo Gallery, as well as Next Cruises and Princess Loyalty. Several dining venues are also on this deck. These include cruiser favorites like Alfredo's Pizzeria, the International Cafe, and the newly relocated buffet, the Eatery, aft on Deck 9. Two specialty restaurants, the Butchers Block by Dario and The Catch By Rudi, are also here.
Down on deck 8 is the completely redesigned Arena, the ship's theater, home to signature productions and headliner acts. The largest casino in the fleet, the brand-new Spellbound by Magic Castle, is also on this deck. Cruiser favorite Crooner's Bar is right off the piazza. Additional specialty restaurants, like Sabatini's, the new Umai Teppayanki, and Makoto Ocean, are also on this deck.
The cruise line improved the retail area on Sun Princess. Now, on the starboard side of the ship, decks 7 and 8 are home to enhanced Princess Shops.
Sun Princess is the first ship to boast a three-story main dining room. Each dining room offers a unique experience. While the décor of Deck 8 looks similar to the other decks, this restaurant is home to the Americana Diner, which serves all-day classic American comfort food.
Decks 6 and 7 of the Horizons Main Dining room serve the standard, rotating Princess Cruises menu, which changes each evening.
Cruisers in the new Signature Suites collection have a private restaurant on this deck. Likewise, those in certain mini-suites have the Reserve Collection restaurant on deck 7. These serve similar menus to the main dining room, with a few upscale menu items.
Deck 7 is also home to a second coffee shop, Coffee Currents, and one of our favorite bars on the ship, Good Spirits. There is also the lively O'Malley's Irish Pub, the Bellini's Cocktail Bar, the Wheelhouse Bar, and the Princess Live Lounge. This venue was home to nightly entertainment, live music, and various cruise director-led events.
Families can’t pass up the new Firefly Park on Deck 6 and the Neon Groove and The Underground on Deck 7,

We took a Princess cruise 25 years ago. One restaurant. One pool. Two music venues and several bars. We still managed to have a great time though

It's great to see that Princess seem to have kept the brand consistent with the launch of Sun Princess - I was worried that it would feel like a massive (and very generic) ship, but that doesn't appear to be the case at all. As always, wonderful video guys!

Sorry if you are vulnerable to sea sickness- we had two rougher nights which made it difficult to sleep for me but no physical symptoms. I did not expect this ship to feel as much like an earthquake event since it is larger.

During the day is the dome quiet or is there loud music? Is there any shade in the dome and the area out in front of the dome?

The dome wasn’t open much when we were there so we would love to know too. Great question. There is little shade in that area.

@@Eatsleepcruise1we had a sadly rainy day which deterred us from going out to port on the day we docked at Palma, Mallorca, in Spain! So that was the day we took a visit to the dome when it wasn’t busier actually. It was the perfect option for this. It was peaceful and featured a tropical waterfall mural on the LED screen over the indoor pool stage wall, and ambient white noise like running water was audible throughout the soft rain on the dome. I think the size was cool but didn’t make the circus acrobatics performance in evening. Video of the performance set looked gorgeous with mood lighting. I saw their rehearsal in the piazza and it was chill.

For my upcoming cruise my stateroom is located forward on Deck 16. How do I get to the Sea View Terrace?

It’s not difficult navigating the layout and we watched every KZfaq review. The aft ship glass elevators take you to the wake view infinitely pool bar and lounge which was not too occupied as well as the forward sea view terrace just around the front of the dome. Both gorgeous contemporary deck features, just loved. We lounged more forward sea view terrace, since it had a bit more multi level room to remain secluded and so just go towards the dome and the deck accommodates passage around the sides.

The Deluxe Balconies are nice. So, we would probably save the money and upgrade to Princess Plus. If you do decide on a mini-suite, we recommend the Cabana suites and get one that has the Reserve Collection. When are you thinking of cruising?

@@Eatsleepcruise1yes, we were reserved on the deluxe balcony and premier package so upgraded with the special bidding offer and got the extended balcony which unfortunately due to cooler spring weather conditions didn’t use! But it was important to experience the additional loungers included with the regular deck chairs. I would not pay the original price for that stateroom but if you bid for the upgrade when / if offered you will get a better deal. The size of the ship, ranges of public resort areas and activities meant we didn’t require a suite. Of course larger families and friends groups and special celebrations cruises would benefit from more gracious hospitality amenities. We had plenty of storage space for a bountiful wardrobe of 2 large checked suitcases with small duffel carryon bags.

We recently cruised on the Sun Princess, lovely ship but most of the great features on the ship weren’t up and running, very disappointing, the Dome was closed for the entire trip, kids looked forward to mentioned activities on upper decks, closed every day, maybe better in an year or two.

It’s so beautiful with more glass to the sea! Such a relief from the glitzy styling of all the brands. I hate the sameness ouch trying to outdo the next. It has elegantly crafted spaces that never feel like a mall to me.

It is actually an electronic hanging gliding attraction that doesn't stretch over the edge of the ship. Still, it is pretty terrifying! Happy cruising!
