Bacopa monnieri - Water Hyssop - is a bitter, edible plant with a long history of use to improve memory. It is the subject of much research and works well for some people. In this video we cover some of the research and take a close look at the species. You can read about a thousand edible wild plants on: www.eattheweeds.com. Green Deane is the most watched forager in the world.

Are doctors qualified to advise us on herbs??? or nutrition??? I don't know, they don't seem to have a clue as to the effects of herbs or foods on our health, they say it doesn't matter what we eat; oh ya, there're a few exceptions, but most of them are just as lost as the lay people. We do need to educate ourselves more on these matters, and we're certainly not encouraged by the doctors to do so. I am very grateful for people like you who teach us about the good "weeds". :)

Effect size? 3% improvement? 10%? Effect size is important. Sometimes it's almost nothing, or very slight. Other times more noticeable and sometimes even major. All too often, though, there isn't much.

Before I recommend this to anyone, will you tell me if this is a hyssop that makes "spirits"? Do all hyssops? I use hyssop extract ( essential oil) Its smells, but can be disguised with a combo of others. I love purslane!! Ever tried purslane and cilantro in a water sauce over green beans.. Do it )

I think you are reading something into the common name "hyssop" which has nothing botanically to do with any other plant. It's a long convoluted story involving the smoking container clergy swing. You can read about it here: www.eattheweeds.com/lemon-bacopa-lets-call-it-lime-instead/

Thanks you so much for talking about bacopa monnieri (along with other bacopas) and specifically talking about how it is used and what studies have shown. I have lots growing in my aquariums and sometimes I have too many. I'm glad to know that I can eat them :D I was wondering, some aquatic plant videos mentioned that Bacopa Caroliniana is also a medicinal plant. You mentioned them tasting better but not being very good for us? I am actually not sure which Bacopa I have in my tanks right now. But I'l just eat it and figure out I guess. Also thanks for mentioning how similar it is to pursulane, and how different it is, I thought of the similarity as soon as I saw photos of it online. The ones growing in my aquariums are smaller .... probably because they were in really cold

@@greendeane1 i happen to receive bacopa from a dealer who had been growing it under water. I tried growing it by sticking it into soil. It has been a month. Only half survived and the roots grew only a little. Overall growth is slow i wonder if it is normal.

wouldn't it be better to eat these weeds / herbs fresh?
@greendeane1
@greendeane1 2 жыл бұрын
It can depend on why you are consuming them. Dying can concentrate certain plant components making it more efficacious. Cooking might make them more available. It depends on the plant and why it is being used. That can effect the how. Research shows this plant works well dried but people also eat it raw.

@@greendeane1 I just thought that the longer you leave something the less nutritional it would be like fruit and veg. I've been eating raw brahmi but if you say it's better to dry it out I'll do that instead. thank you for your reply.
