I have owned this exact same bag (colour and all) for going on 6 years and it is my favourite piece of luggage. It has been all over Australia and the world - mainly as check-in though sometimes international carry-on. It is very robust! It suits me 100% for packing with cubes and the external pockets are well designed for quickly accessing items that are needed. If I have any complaint it would be that it's unpacked weight of 8.7lbs (just under 4kgs) is quite heavy which only leaves me 3.5kgs max packing for Australian carry-on; hence why it usually goes check-in or premium carry-on.

I love mine. I got it after seeing your original review, thank you for your opinions and reviews. I used my bag on my recent trip it held great . it did fit all my clothes ( I always over pack, LOL) I do use the ebags packing cubes. And yes the compression straps work great.

Like you had talked about the side handle on the outside of the suitcase. The version that I received from eBags not only has the side handle, but it also has two compression straps on the inside main compartment. so, I guess it is luck of the draw when it comes to get this bag from eBags. Like your's, mine had held up extremely well and I highly recommend it!!

My bag came with 2 long, thin black metal rods but no instructions on how to use them. I assume that they are for internal support but don't know how to insert them.

Apparently, they aren't making this bag anymore, as I can't find it anywhere.

My bag has two compression straps in the front pocket. I guess they are making some small tweaks..

As for "how pretty"--form follows function, if it does what you want that's good form, if not, not so much. Fashion, not so much. Thanks for your great reviews Chris.

There's a zipper that allows the bag to expand.

Ebags probably wants you as a consumer to buy their packing cubes , that could be why they didn’t put compression straps.

My main question is the dimensions don't seem to work for any carryon requirements, domestic or international, yet almost every reviewer says on ebags site that it was their carryon for domestic and travel to Europe. I'd really just like to know which airlines would turn it away and force us to check it?

If you hate highly padded carrying handles, I'm sure you would really hate luggage handle cushioned wraps😀. I wrap my handles with extra cushioned Velcro wraps so I can easily carry a bag a long long distance without cutting off my blood circulation 😮 The more cushion the better💼. I'm surprised there's no compression straps inside. As you are aware, their original backpack modell has them. Very interesting.
