A no load test will just show runtime of no load. Put load on them or test how many can screw in screws and how many (a load test) I don’t spend the extra money for just brand name, I spend the money cuz I know they’ll last. Have had my first battery for over 4-5 years now and it has seen almost 3-4 times use in a week. Still doesn’t skip a beat

Same reason why I bought my knockoffs, keep the genuine for heavier projects!! As a diyer I do recommend you to check if the knockoff you are buying has some sort of balancing bms as some of them dont and after 4 or 6 charges the cells inside go out of balance and the charger won't recognize the battery

Mine worked well, up until three or four weeks ago. So they lasted about a year. The brand names are better for sure, but if you don’t do that much, the knock offs are good. Good suggestions.

I agree that the name brand batteries are very expensive but you may want to also factor in performance over time. I suspect that the generic won't last as long either.

The batteries wont be a problem, the cell types in these cheap units seem to be the well known samsung, LG ilk sort of cell.

I would still look to get the battery from the name brand. I have gotten some batteries for as low as $7.22 amp hr, which equates to $14.50 for a 2.0 amp hr, cheaper than eBay, for a Milwaukee HO battery. You just have to be on the lookout for those types of deals on clearance. The other thing to keep in mind is that these batteries do not hold a high amp output like Makita or Milwaukee battery either. However this is a good test and a reminder of the difference between the two.

I’m with you on the brand name. They are better for sure. I use the generic ones quite a bit and they’ve held up well, but the name brand holds a charge much longer.

I bought some counterfeit a few years back for another brand of tool off eBay and you're lucky if they last more than a few months. I don't know if these are any better but I would not bother again with counterfeits or third party or imitations.

I only have 1 battery, it's gone dead on me a few times while using, no big deal just need to re-charge. Getting a cheap battery seems like a good option to use during the down time while the real one is charging.

Running the drill unloaded is not a totally fair test. I purchased one of the larger eBay batteries and put them in a Milwaukee circular saw. It worked fine until the blade got pinched. The battery would no longer power the saw or charge. I took it apart and found that the large power lead was burned in two. I soldered it back to together but that did not fix the problem. It was over the 30 day limit so I contacted the company. They never responded to my email.

I think that’s about worst case setup for a battery... give it a break between bursts it probably won’t be “half” as good... try putting in simple 2 or 3” screws... count how many you can get...

those exact ones caused an explosion and fire in our condo. Each cell exploded and shot fiery contents all over causing fire and damage. I put it out with a fire extinguisher, but each cell kept exploding a few seconds later - it was a terrifying morning. The smoke is also extremely toxic my lungs are still burning from it a week later- it looks the same because they are hiding what it is, dangerous. If we weren't home to extinguish it, it would have been much worse, and at 3:30am everyone is sleeping.

I bought some m12 knock offs new lasted more than a month I used the drill for 5times on the fifth time this after market one stop completely working it read an error and so I put it on charger and didn’t want to charge after I did a small repair on the battery I noticed it was a cell going bad put it all back but the problem continue and that cell just wouldn’t keep and made the whole pack useless no more than 2minutes so yeah better stick with the factory expensive battery for that expensive tool heheh . There’s a reason they aren’t cheap after all …. Beside those aftermarket don’t have the uff the tool demands so unless your running a led buy the Milwaukee original batteries … that’s my experience not to mention I wouldn’t trust keeping those aftermarket battery charging with out my supervisión never know what could go bad …

@@TheTrentTribe Can I tell you! I've been trying to get one but the prices are ridiculous... some are waaaaaaaaay more expensive than the drill itself. Doesn’t really make sense to buy the fake batteries unless u just want an extra for a tool that u barley use. The genuine batteries have a 3 year warranty and I have a bunch of batteries that are 5 1/2 years old that still work very well and I use them all day long 5 days a week for the entire 5 1/2 years. The genuine batteries are much too expensive at Home Depot a m18 5.0 battery is 149.99 but you can get the same genuine battery for 69.99 on eBay and the fake 5.0 batteries are 45 bucks for 2. I have a sawzall and drill at my shop that I probably use just a couple times per week so maybe I’ll buy the fake batteries for them just so I don’t need to take a good battery off another tool to use on them but for a tool I use every day I gotta have the genuine batteries. I guess I’d say after 5 1/2 years of using the two 5.0 batteries I have they need to be charged a bit more often but they really still work pretty dang good for being so old. I really have never owned a power tool that the batteries and the actual tool have lasted so long. I am an auto mechanic and I’ve owned some other cordless stuff but the batteries usually only last about a year and the tool maybe 2 years so I never really got into cordless stuff until Milwaukee came out with the brushless stuff. I have seen many co-workers spend over 700 bucks on a 1/2 in cordless impact gun only for batteries to start going bad after a year and the tool breaking after a couple years but snap on only has a 1 year warranty on the batteries and 2 years on the tool so I just couldn’t justify spending so much on junk. I paid 520 bucks for a 1/2 impact, 1/2 in drill, 3/8 impact, flash light, charger and 2 5.0 batteries all brushless stuff so I got all of that for less than just the one impact from snap on.

So far the cheap ones are working good for me, but they don’t last as long obviously. I did buy a 5.0 genuine to add to my batteries and I love it. I’ve been slowly adding Milwaukee brand tools to my collection over the last six months or so. All battery powered, I have a skill saw that works amazing, a multi-tool, the impact drill, and also a brad nailer. The brad nailer is amazing! I’ve used it a lot on various projects and I have zero complaints. Milwaukee has my business for sure. I’ll be interested to see how long the generic batteries last as far as their lifetime goes.

$ per minute the knockoff wins (nearly twice as better value). I wonder how the charging times compare or do I need to buy a knockoff charger as well. In real life I support quality manufacturers and the quality products they make, without your support everything would be just another knockoff from china.

buy battery shell, board, and buy good legit cell, and do yourself weld it. in this way, it is not only cheap but also same if not better quality than the factory one. i just build my 8ah with sony cv6a cell, 4000mah each with 40A out put, 21700 cells. this thing is a monster. and i bought the factory battery case, also i padded the them. so it is actually better than factory battery, but way cheaper (half price)

Overall, i think it is only worth it for ppl dont have money want to start earning money but authentic tool are just too much to buy right off the bat. After earning some money, i would go for a branded tool for sure. the Makita my boss use last forever (been using some battery for more than 7 years, still doing fine).
