I had the same experience. Batteries are so expensive but this proves you get what you pay for. Also my genuine batteries last like 10 years. Im lucky to get 10 weeks out of the knock offs

I always go authentic. I've had a 3amp hour that I use every day in my radio since my apprenticeship. Maybe like 10 years. It's lost a bit of charge but goes strong still.

I bought a pair of 5AH Chinese Makita branded batteries. One worked, the other didn't at all. The charger said full but instantly died on a drill. They asked for a video proving that it defective. Never heard back from them. From now on only genuine Makita batteries for me.

Not all knockoffs are the same. The one you have is the worst, by far, of any knockoff ive used. A '6ah' lasts around what a genuine makita 2ah does. And has less amp/power with any high torque tools. Saws, blower, etc. They are okay for impacts and lights. Another one I had (that looks much more like the genuine on the sides and bottom) is in between the genuine and the one I just mentioned. Kinda happy with it considering the price and peformance given. But for real hard use with recip saws, circ saws, grinders and so on, genuine is the way to go. Just buy em online. Retailers have such a stupid markup on em. Seems to be worst with Makita. Better deals on Milwaukee and Dewalt batteries overall.

thanks for your comment , im about to buy an impact driver. What is the best bang for the buck you suggest? something that also has quality generic battery replacements 👍

@@touareg7plife964 If you aren't already established on a platform, then easily the best bang for the buck would be Harbor Freights Hercules brand. Buying at the store will mean it's legit. I've seen those batteries torn open and they use real 21700 cells. And the tools perform very well or sometimes better than the big name ones. And If you use a good coupon, even better deal. I think they even have a 3 year warranty. Swap out with no questions asked.

Looks like these are battery shaped objects (BSO's) with leftover cells that did not pass QA. You said you only get 3 months out of these batteries - what would you get from a regular Makita battery?

I have some one is 5 years the other is 3 years old and I bought 2 recently that died pretty quickly. They sent me 2 new ones I didn't even have to send the old ones back but they are starting to go. I checked the cells and they have varied voltage.

I measured the capacity of various aftermarket batteries using a load-tester. I found that they vary enormously in capacity and performance. The best of them were measured to be around 50% to 60% of the nominal capacity, but a majority of them tested around 15% to 20% of nominal capacity, and were basically worn-out right out of the box. I also found they also have a shorter lifespan. I concluded that the aftermarket batteries are NOT WORTH IT, and next time i'll just buy 5.0Ah Makita batteries.

Do you know what battery cells Makita use? Possibly Sony? I've also heard that Samsung cells are good quality?

When you buy original Makita products you also buy with safety in mind. Who knows where that battery is manufactured and it could explode so not worth the risk in my opinion

You get what you pay for . There is reason why genuine batteries are expensive. Even Chinese companies like Milwaukee (yes it's Chinese) are not cheap. Quality cells cost money.

@hdj81Vlimited not all makita tools are made in China(definitely not cells inside those batteries). I'm not saying Chinese made tools or batteries or cells are low quality. Buying genuine batteries save you money in the long run.

I´ve watched quite a lot of reviews on knockoffs and I bought the less bad one, Weitly 5.0Ah. Tested it in my anglegrinder and just after a few cuts it was varmer than the Makita 5Ah. I made the conclusion, together with all the yt-tests I´ve seen that there is not good enough cells in the batteries to perform with high power outputs. The reason these "knockoffs" are not as god as the original Makita ones is: 1: Batterycells are lower quality and not speced for high current output. 2: Battery management don´t cut out in time and you are able to overdisscharge the batterypack (damaging cells) and thus significantly reducing battery life and performance. And in some cases there is no balancing of cells. So when, and why should one even buy these? They are alright in equipment with low powerconsumption such as radios, impacts, flashlights, hedgetrimmers etc OR when you risk dropping your tool or use it in questionable conditions.

Higher temperatures in the battery means it has higher internal resistance so it wastes power and produces less power overall. I have a feeling these fakes are made with reject cells from the regular manufacturing lines!

Makita batteries is worth batteries on market. Any brands is last longer than Makita junk. I regret for buying Makita tools. Original set last only 13 month. Warranty was 12. Aftermarket batteries last 2 years. Same problem failed chip

Makita are usually very reliable. The old 18v Makita batteries (I'm talking 20 years ago) would die if they were allowed to go completely flat, but I thought they fixed that problem?
